Midway through Saturday’s round, it was a bunched up leaderboard with several golfers in contention, but Hideki Matsuyama’s tremendous second nine has given him a big four stroke edge. Matsuyama takes his first 54-hole lead at a major championship after a tournament best tying round of 65, along with the first bogey-free round of the week by anyone in the event.

Some big names are right behind him ready to pounce should he stumble, including Xander Schauffele who we’ve been high on all week, along with pre-tournament +10000 underdog Justin Rose, Masters rookie Will Zalatoris and Marc Leishman.

Read on to see the updated Masters odds and the best bets heading into Sunday’s final round, where a champion will be crowned and a green jacket awarded.

Matsuyama Has Strangehold on Tournament

Hideki Matsuyama was lingering around the top of the leaderboard midway through Saturday but after the weather delay, he came back out and played inspired golf. That led to a four stroke edge as Matsuyama went on a torrid stretch, posting four birdies and an eagle in the final eight holes.

He’s in total control of his game to put him on the cusp of getting back into the winner’s circle for the first time in nearly four years on the PGA Tour. He’s averaged 13 greens in regulation per round, and on Saturday had just 1.39 putts per green in regulation.

Historically, his putter has been his downfall, as he’s ranked 166th in strokes gained putting on the campaign and was 170th last season.

If you were to wager on him pre-tournament at +4500 odds, you’d be sitting pretty now compared to his current -115 number. He’s had a tough time with final rounds, ranking T-116 this season. With his first 54 hole lead at a major and his contemporaries able to fire at flags and be aggressive, he’s not sporting palpable odds to wager on.

Best Live Value Picks for the Masters

  1. Xander Schauffele (+500): We were big on Schauffele after Thursday’s opening round at +2700 odds, so why stop now? He’s improved each day and though he only hit eleven greens Saturday, still shot four under. Fourth in birdie average this season, and was T-2nd here in 2019. All four of his PGA Tour titles have been in come from behind fashion on Sunday.
  2. Corey Conners (+2000): Known as a ball striking savant, Canadian Corey Conners is five back to begin Sunday. In the last two rounds, has missed just two fairways, and had a spectacular hole-in-one on the sixth hole Saturday. Tied ninth in final round scoring average on the season. Eight-under-par on the first nine holes this week which will be huge for him to get off to a quick start to challenge Matsuyama. Finished T-10 in last November’s Masters so he’s comfortable at this track.
