The first World Golf Championships event on the calendar sees 64 of the best players in golf teeing it up for the prestigious WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play title. Almost all of the big names in golf who qualified are competing, with the exceptions being Rory McIlroy, Cameron Smith, Hideki Matsuyama, Harris English, Phil Mickelson, and Valspar Champion Sam Burns. After a lengthy absence, Bryson DeChambeau returns to PGA Tour action.

The first three days will consist of 16 groups of four golfers each playing everyone in their group once in a round robin format, with winners advancing to the Sweet 16. The March Madness continues after that, with single elimination knockout matches all the way to the final, where a champion is crowned.

Last year, Billy Horschel defeated Scottie Scheffler in the final for his first career WGC title.

Full Bracket

The Tour has released the full bracket to get in on the March Madness hysteria, which can be seen below via their Twitter account.

Patrick Cantlay Primed for First Win This Year

Patrick Cantlay has been hovering near the top of plenty of leaderboards for a long time, as he amassed six straight top-10’s (including two victories) from the end of the 2021 season and into 2022. Since the calendar changed to January, his closest call was a playoff loss at the WM Phoenix Open.

Though he’s cooled off a bit in his last two starts, with a T-33rd at the Genesis and a missed cut at the Players Championship, he’s put together a sustained record of success compared to his contemporaries.

Cantlay also benefits from playing in what will be perceived as a weaker group against Sungjae Im, Keith Mitchell and Seamus Power. In the 2019 Presidents Cup and 2021 Ryder Cup, he totaled a record of 6-2-1. At +2200 odds to win the trophy, he has longer odds than the top-six players on the board, so you’re getting him at good value.

2022 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Best Value Picks

  1. Paul Casey (+3000): Paul Casey very nearly won the biggest tournament of his career at the Players Championship two weeks ago, where he wound up in third place. He has a wealth of experience in this match play format, having gone to the finals at this event in 2009 and 2010. He’s also won a world match play event earlier in his career in 2006. In five of his last seven tournaments he’s been 16th or better. He’s in a group with Louis Oosthuizen, Alex Noren and Corey Conners.
  2. Tommy Fleetwood (+5000): In five of his last six worldwide starts, Tommy Fleetwood has posted top-25 finishes as he’s found himself in the periphery of contention. Fleetwood has a pair of T-5’s at this championship, with a trip to the quarterfinals last year. He has a 4-2-2 career Ryder Cup match play record. Will be in tough in perhaps the group of death against defending champ Scottie Scheffler, Matt Fitzpatrick and match play stalwart Ian Poulter.
  3. Kevin Kisner (+6500): Hard to argue with Kevin Kisner’s elite track record around this course, as he won in 2019 and was runner-up in 2018. He has three top-10’s in 2022, including a fourth place result two starts ago at the Players Championship. Justin Thomas will be a difficult out, along with Marc Leishman and Luke List.
