Tiger Woods’ 2019 Open Championship Odds Fading; Is There Value?

- Tiger Woods’ odds of winning the 2019 Open Championship have worsened in the eyes of bookmakers
- Since his victory at the 2019 Masters, Tiger hasn’t been a factor in his three tour events
- Who is the best bet to lift the Claret Jug next month?
Coming off his epic and historic Masters title in April, Tiger Woods was flying high and his average 2019 Open Championship Odds were +770 across a number of top sportsbooks.
Since that victory at Augusta, however, Woods has failed to build upon that momentum, resulting in his odds fading to an average of +1100. Is he worth wagering on at that price?

Tiger Woods Hasn’t Been as Sharp Since Masters Win
When you’re Tiger Woods, arguably the greatest golfer of all time, anything other than posting victories will seem like a major disappointment. Following his Masters triumph, people were all in on the hoopla, going so far as to place absolutely wild wagers that he’d continue his dominance.
James Adducci, the bettor who won $1.19 million off an $85,000 bet on Tiger Woods to win the Masters is back at it.
He placed a $100,000 bet at 100-1 odds this afternoon on Tiger to win the Grand Slam this year at William Hill's SLS sportsbook.
The bet would win $10 million.

The reality is, Tiger will likely never recapture his glory from two decades past and come close to winning the “Tiger Slam” like he did from 2000-01, but that doesn’t mean he’s not capable of picking off more majors down the road.

He’s only played in three events since slipping into a Green Jacket in April which hasn’t yielded the greatest of results, relative to his skill set.

Should You Bet on Tiger to Win the 2019 Open Championship?
Because of those three tournaments, the Big Cat has seen his average odds fade to +1100 with the (relatively) cooler weather having an impact on his infused back in the PGA Championship and US Open.
My man @johnmaginnes makes an excellent point on Tiger Woods: Not helping him that after the Masters there will have been three (relatively) cold-weather majors. Can tell it’s having an impact.

It only stands to reason that someone who’s undergone back surgery will have a tougher time competing when the temperatures are cooler than normal, which is expected for the Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Ireland next month.
While it is always hard to not show faith in the amazing talents of Tiger Woods, given his lack of reps, the potential cooler temperatures and his good-not-great putting and driving this season, the smart bet is to not place a wager.

The Best Bets to Win 2019 Open Championship
Despite him being the favorite with not much value (+750), you’d be a fool not to put all your faith in Brooks Koepka. In his last four majors, he’s won twice and finished runner-up in a pair of them.
In terms of value, Xander Schauffele at +2600 offers you your best bang for your buck. In his last six majors, he’s posted an impressive four top-6 finishes including a second place showing in last year’s Open Championship and second and third place results in this year’s Masters and US Open.
