Go For The Under On Strikeout Plays

Both starters being sent to the bump for Game 3 – right-handers Ian Anderson of the Braves and Luis Garcia of the Astros – are being assigned 3.5 as their strikeout total. If you were to look at the big picture, the over absolutely looks to be the play in the case of both hurlers.

Anderson has struck out four or more batters in 22 of 27 appearances. However, recency bias suggests there’s just as much chance that he’ll hit on the under.

He’s gone over the 3.5 strikeout total in two of three postseason starts and in five of his last seven starts. However, Anderson is 5-5 on that over/under through his past 10 starts.

Likewise, when playing the long game with Garcia, the over looks to be where to put your money. The Astros righty has gone over 3.5 strikeouts in 26 of 33 appearances.

Again, though, recent results suggest it’s a 50-50 tossup. Garcia has fanned four or more batters in two of three playoff appearances. He’s 3-4 on the over/under through his past seven appearances.

Picks: Ian Anderson under 3.5 strikeouts (-125); Luis Garcia under 3.5 strikeouts (-125)

Seeking To Hit On The Right Moves

As was the case with Game 2 of the World Series, neither starting pitcher has ever faced any of the batters on the opposing team. Since both pitchers are right-handers, the best option then is to anaylze which batters are hitting well off of righties.

In the case of the Braves, that would be not many. In fact, outfielder Eddie Rosario is about their only hot bat when digging in against a right-hander. Rosario is batting .419 (13-for-31) with two home runs and 10 RBI.

For the Astros, catcher Yordan Alvarez is hitting .400  (6-for-15) with a homer and three RBI. Leftfielder Michael Brantley is 9-for-25 (.360) against right-handers with four RBI. Right fielder Kyle Tucker is batting .345 (10-for-29) with three homers and 11 RBI.

Picks: Eddie Rosario +1.5 hits (+165); Michael Brantley +1.5 hits (+165); Yordan Alvarez +0.5 hits (-250); Kyle Tucker +0.5 hits (-250)
