  • MLB leading Atlanta Braves battle the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park Tuesday night
  • The starting pitchers are Spencer Strider up against Ranger Suarez in a great matchup
  • See the Braves vs Red Sox for tonight’s duel plus a player prop bet to wager on

The Atlanta Braves (36-18) head to Fenway Park to take on the Boston Red Sox (22-30) in Game 1 of their series Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 PM ET / 3:45 PM PT on TBS, NESN and BravesVision. Despite Atlanta being the best team in the big leagues and far greater than Boston, it’s a pick’em game in the MLB odds.

Atlanta comes in having dropped two straight to the Nationals, while the BoSox were swept at home by the Twins. Continue reading for my game preview and predictions for this affair, plus a player prop bet that I absolutely love.

Braves vs Red Sox Picks & Predictions

  • Moneyline Prediction: Braves (-110 at bet365)

My analysis here is heavily rooted in offensive efficiency and starting pitching depth. Atlanta comes into Fenway Park boasting a dangerous lineup that has generated 282 runs (second most in MLB), a .260 team batting average (best), and a .755 OPS.

Conversely, Boston’s offense has sputtered to just 194 runs (worst in MLB) on a .240 average and a sluggish .683 OPS. Atlanta starters have yielded a collective 3.02 ERA, giving the visitors the edge on both sides of the ball. These two squads had a series less than two weeks ago, where ATL won two of three over BOS.

  • Best Player Prop: Spencer Strider Over 6.5 Pitcher Strikeouts (-105 at BetMGM)

Spencer Strider’s strikeout upside is phenomenal. He currently averages an overwhelming 11.57 strikeouts per nine innings with 27 in 21 innings of work. Boston is in the lower half in whiffs in the majors, so he should be able to neutralize them.

ATL vs BOS Pitching Matchup & Team Stats

The MLB probable pitchers for this game feature Spencer Strider of the Braves and Ranger Suarez for the Red Sox. Both have fared very well on the season, and Suarez is the main reason why the visitors aren’t a heavy favorite.

Spencer Strider vs Ranger Suarez

StatisticSpencer Strider (ATL)Ranger Suarez (BOS)

BB/95.142.59
Opp. Batting Avg..171.202
IP per Start5.255.41

Strider takes the mound sporting an unblemished 2-0 record and a 3.00 ERA. His ability to miss bats is elite, highlighted by his massive 11.57 K/9 rate and a .171 opponent batting average.

Countering for the Red Sox is Suarez, who has been the model of consistency. He enters the contest with a sparkling 2.40 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP, largely driven by excellent command (2.59 BB/9).

The most distinct takeaway from the metrics above is how heavily the offensive scale tips in favor of the visitors. The Braves are absolute road warriors, boasting an impressive 19-8 record away from Truist Park.

Conversely, Fenway Park has offered no friendly confines for the Red Sox. They have stumbled to an 8-17 home record while scoring just 2.96 runs per game. Boston sits dead last in the league with a paltry 0.52 home runs per game at home.

In the MLB public betting splits, there’s a strong consensus leaning toward the favorites. A massive 86% of the overall financial liability is backing Atlanta to win outright, compared to 68% of the tickets.

In the total runs market, 75% of the wagers have been placed on over eight runs being scored between these two squads. However, five of the last six matchups have resulted in less than eight combined runs.
