  • The Dodgers battle the Padres in the rubber match of their three game set Wednesday evening
  • It’s an elite starting pitcher duel between Shohei Ohtani and Randy Vasquez
  • Keep reading for my Dodgers vs Padres preview, with my predictions and public betting splits

The Los Angeles Dodgers (30-19) and San Diego Padres (29-19) jockey for position in the NL West, where they’re separated by just a half game. The Dodgers edged out the Padres 5-4 in their previous meeting, fueled by a two-homer performance from Freddie Freeman on Tuesday.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:40 PM PT / 8:40 PM ET from Petco Park on MLB Network, SportsNet LA and Padres.TV in the USA and Sportsnet in Canada. The MLB odds have installed the road squad as favorites in this rubber match. Keep reading for my analysis and predictions for tonight’s affair.

Dodgers vs Padres Predictions & Best Bets

  • Under 7.5 Runs (-115 at Fanatics)
  • Shohei Ohtani Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-150 at BetMGM)

The pitching matchup makes me lean heavily toward the Under 7.5 for the game total. Dodgers ace Shohei Ohtani boasts a microscopic 0.82 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP across 44.0 innings, with opposing batters hitting just .161. He’s allowed just four earned runs in 44 innings, pitching at least six frames in each of his seven starts.

San Diego starter Randy Vásquez has also put together an impressive season, pitching to a 2.68 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 50.1 innings. In his last two starts, Vasquez has surrendered just one earned run, and he’s held teams to zero or one earned run in five of eight starts on the campaign.

For player props, my favorite angle is Ohtani to record over 6.5 pitching strikeouts at -115 via BetMGM. He’s fanning batters at a rate of 10.23 strikeouts per nine innings. He’s accumulated at least seven K’S in five straight times hitting the mound.

LAD vs SD Public Betting Splits

The MLB public betting splits show the public supports LA, with 77% of the moneyline tickets and 56% of the total betting handle. Confidence in Los Angeles extends into the runline market, with 68% of wagers and 79% of cash laying the runs.

The over/under market has drawn a nearly perfect split for both teams, with 51% of bets on Over 7.5 runs, but 49% of the money is plunked down on that occurring.

Dodgers vs Padres Injury Report & Game Impact

Injuries play a significant role for both clubs. Los Angeles navigates 14 active injuries, heavily impacting their pitching depth. Missing frontline starters like Tyler Glasnow and back-end relievers like Evan Phillips limits late-inning options. While Ohtani typically pitches deep into games, an early exit could expose a patched-together bullpen.

San Diego deals with fewer active injuries, but their ailments directly impact the everyday lineup. Losing Jake Cronenworth to concussion symptoms strips away a left-handed bat and infield defender against Ohtani. Catcher Luis Campusano is also sidelined with a fractured toe, removing depth from the lower half of the order.
