The Texas Rangers (29-31) and St. Louis Cardinals (31-27) are continuing their interleague series at Busch Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 PM CT / 7:45 PM ET Tuesday night, and you can watch it on Rangers Sports Network and Cardinals.TV. In the previous matchup, the Rangers edged out the Cardinals 2-1 behind a solid start from Jacob deGrom in a pitcher’s duel with Michael McGreevy.
The MLB odds have the Rangers as slight road favorites in this one to win back-to-back against St. Louis. Continue reading for my Rangers vs Cardinals preview, best bet and favorite prop bet to make for Tuesday’s duel.
Rangers vs Cardinals Predictions and Best Bets
- Game Pick: Texas Rangers Moneyline (-115 at Caesars)
- Player Prop Pick: Nathan Eovaldi Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-110 at BetMGM)
With both offenses sporting an identical .696 OPS and struggling to generate consistent run support, this matchup will be decided on the mound. Veteran Nathan Eovaldi has been a stabilizing force, posting a 3.93 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP over 68.2 innings. Meanwhile, Dustin May has struggled with base traffic, entering with a 4.57 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP across 61.0 innings.
A few mismatches favor the Rangers. They rank sixth in the league with a .730 road OPS. In contrast, the Cardinals muster a meager 3.83 runs per game at home and possess a lackluster .698 OPS at Busch Stadium. On the mound, the Rangers pitching staff ranks sixth in the majors with a 1.21 WHIP, while the Cardinals rank 22nd in team WHIP at 1.36. TEX has won four straight while STL has dropped eight of eleven.
As for the MLB player props, Eovaldi averages 8.78 strikeouts per nine innings. He’s tossed at least six K’s in eight of eleven starts on the campaign, including in his last five outings, so I’m going over 5.5 strikeouts.
Starting Pitching Matchup and Team Statistics
The MLB probable pitchers show that the Rangers have the advantage. Nathan Eovaldi has provided impressive stability and superior run prevention. He limits free passes with a 2.10 BB/9 and stifles opposing hitters to a .230 batting average.
Conversely, Dustin May has experienced more turbulence. Despite a promising 3.55 FIP suggesting some poor fielding luck, opponents are hitting a healthy .270 against him. He also trails in strikeout production with a 7.53 K/9 rate. However, he’s been much better after a porous first two starts, where he allowed 13 earned runs.
Rangers vs Cardinals Betting Splits and Trends
In the MLB public betting splits, just 56% of wagers have been placed on the road favorites to emerge victorious, with an even 50-50 split on the handle. A gargantuan 93% of bets are on Over seven combined runs, with 89% of the cash placed on that same bet. As always, MLB park factors could point towards which team will come out on top, so be sure to do your research.
