After losing 6-2 in the first game of their series vs San Diego, Cincinnati won for the first time in six contests Tuesday, 5-3 in eleven innings. In this rubber match, the Padres are heavy favorites in the MLB odds. First pitch is set for 1:10 PM PT / 4:10 PM ET, and it can seen on Reds.TV and Padres.TV.

The pitching matchup shows that San Diego has the distinct edge, with Michael King having a far better season than the Reds’ Brady Singer. Keep reading for the odds, preview and predictions, along with my favorite MLB player prop to bet on for this game.

Reds vs Padres Picks and Predictions

  • The Pick: Michael King to record a win (+112 on DraftKings)
  • The Pick: Brady Singer over 5.5 hits allowed (+126 on DraftKings)

Instead of going with a selection on the moneyline for SD, which is not priced favorably, I’m going a little bit off the board and essentially picking the Padres to win, but also for starting pitcher Michael King to pick up the W.

King brings a reliable 3.41 ERA into the contest, backed by an impressive 8.39 K/9 rate. He allows just 6.57 hits per nine innings. The bullpen behind him is also well-equipped to protect a lead, boasting a 3.14 collective ERA. In his career, King 2-0 with a 2.87 ERA in five appearances vs the Reds, with the last two being starts.

On the other side, the Reds counter with Brady Singer. He struggles consistently to keep runners off the basepaths. Singer currently carries a 5.89 ERA, allowing 12.1 hits per nine innings. Given the starting pitching mismatch, King is in an excellent position to earn the decision.

Considering Singer hasn’t been on top of his game, I like him to get hit hard in the MLB player props. Getting plus-money on Singer allowing six or more hits is a mathematical edge worth attacking, since he’s surrendered that total in eight of his last eleven starts.

Team ERA3.89 [10th]4.80 [28th]
Team WHIP1.28 [T-11th]1.47 [29th]

The data reveals a fascinating clash of strengths and weaknesses. The Padres have been surprisingly anemic at home this season. Dead last in both batting average and OPS in their own ballpark, they average just 3.43 runs per game.

However, the cure for a sluggish offense might just be the opposing pitching staff. The Reds arrive yielding a 4.80 team ERA and a 1.47 WHIP that sits near the bottom of the league.

When evaluating situational betting trends, always refer to MLB park factors to gain an edge.
