San Francisco vs Chicago Probable Pitchers

While San Francisco has only managed a 13-14 record in games Rodon has started this season, Giants fans would probably tell you the intense lefty has been the ace of the staff in this frustrating 2022 campaign. He’s struck out at least 10 batters in nine turns this season and comes into Friday’s tilt with 201 punchouts on the year.

The 29-year-old is coming off a 5-3 victory against the Phillies on Sunday, when he went six scoreless innings, allowing only five hits and two walks while striking out 10.

Meantime, the Cubs have only gone 7-12 in Smyly’s outings this season — four of which have been of the quality variety.

He was even better in August, going 2-1 with a 0.90 ERA. But he had a major comedown in his last outing. The division-leading Cardinals got to him for five hits, seven earned runs, three walks and three home runs while striking out only three over 2.1 innings in an 8-4 loss last Saturday.

After sweeping the Phillies at home in a three-game set and blasting five home runs against the Dodgers on Monday to snap an eight-game skid against their bitter rival, the Giants have fallen back on hard times. Kapler’s crew has only pushed nine runs across the plate in the last four games — all losses — and are now 10 games out of the third and final NL Wild Card spot. David Villar has been a bright spot over the losing streak, though, going 5-for-12 — including a pair of long balls in Wednesday’s 7-3 loss to LA.

All-Star Joc Pederson launched his team-leading 22nd big fly of 2022 in a 4-2 defeat to the Brewers in the nightcap of a doubleheader.

Meantime, the Cubs are banged up and not playing well. Since taking two of three from Milwaukee three weeks ago, the North Siders have lost five straight series — dropping 13 of their last 18. The latest defeat was on Thursday in a 4-3 decision to Cincinnati. Cubs rookie Seiya Suzuki doubled and and also hit his 12th homer of the season. He now has hits in 14 of 17 games, hitting .365 in the stretch with three homers and five doubles.

Even with the Japanese import’s hot streak, Ross’ bunch is still at far less than full strength. All-Star catcher Willson Contreras is nursing a left ankle sprain and Patrick Wisdom will likely miss Friday’s game with a sprained left ring finger.

The Cubs have +40000 odds to win the Fall Classic, while the Giants are +10000 in the World Series odds.

Giants vs Cubs Prediction

From a statistical standpoint, Rodon has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season.

With the former White Sox pitcher making a return to the Windy City — against an undermanned Cubs lineup — the Giants should get a win.

Pick: Giants ML (-155)
