A pair of teams trying to get themselves over the hump and start moving comfortably above the .500 mark wrap up a quick two game set on Wednesday, June 7th, when the Padres (28-33, 14-18 home) host the Mariners (30-30, 13-15 away). The Mariners won Tuesday night, 4-1, thanks in part to homers from Teoscar Hernandez and Julio Rodriguez.

First pitch in SoCal goes at 4:10 pm ET and you can see it all on Root Sports Northwest or AT&T U-Verse if you’re in the San Diego area. Seattle snapped a three game slide with their victory after getting pounded in Texas 30-9 over three contests.

Below, we supply you with the Mariners vs Padres odds, while also offering up our analysis leading to our best bet and picks for Wednesday’s contest.

Mariners vs Padres Odds

Team Moneyline Runline Total
Seattle Mariners +100 +1.5 (-190) O 8 (+100)
San Diego Padres -120 -1.5 (+160) U 8 (-120)

There’s not too much to choose from these two sides on Wednesday, but the Padres are slight -120 home favorites in what should be a good pitching matchup. The run total is set at eight runs, a number San Diego hasn’t exceeded in their last five games.

Forecasts are calling for a perfect day in Southern California, as it’ll be a mix of sun and clouds with the game time temperatures expected to be around 66 degrees and mild winds. It will be a bit of a sticky one with humidity around 67% and lots of moisture in the air.

Seattle vs San Diego Probable Pitchers

Don’t let the 5-4 record deceive you, it’s been a terrific start to the season for Mariners second year man, George Kirby, who is coming off a dominant eight inning, 1-0 win over the New York Yankees.

He’s displayed impeccable control, never issuing more than one free pass in any outing this campaign and allows the least walks per nine innings of any qualified starter in baseball. The 25-year old also leads the majors With a 9.7 strikeout to walk ratio.

A little extra run support would go a long way towards strengthening his Cy Young odds, as Kirby has only given up more than three earned runs once in his last 10 starts, but still has four defeats on his record.

Kirby vs Wacha Stats

George Kirby
VS
Michael Wacha
5-4 Record 5-2
3.04 ERA 3.48
1.01 WHIP 1.15
.244 OBA .224
9.7 SO/W Ratio 3.0

Once looked upon as one of the most promising young pitching prospects in baseball, injuries have somewhat derailed Michael Wacha’s career after a stellar first few seasons. This is his fifth straight year with a different teams, but Southern California seems to be suiting the righty just fine in the early going.

Signed to a one-year deal with options by San Diego in the off-season, Wacha has made every start this campaign. His durability is constantly called into questions as the 31-year old hasn’t pitched a full season since 2017 when he went 12-9 with a 4.13 ERA for the Cardinals.

So far this year, he’s 5-2 with a 3.48 ERA and has only given up five earned runs combined in his last six starts as he really finds his groove.

Padres Paying Off on Under Bets

Combining a struggling offense with some very good pitching, the Padres have developed a recipe for bettors to cash in on this year in the MLB odds if you’ve hit the Southern California side to go under the run total line more often than not this season.

Padres Recent Results

Date Home-Away Moneyline Run Line Total
06/06/2023 SD 1 – SEA 4 SEA SEA Under
06/05/2023 SD 5 – CHC 0 SD SD Under
06/04/2023 SD 1 – CHC 7 CHC CHC Under
06/03/2023 SD 6 – CHC 0 SD SD Under
06/02/2023 SD 1 – CHC 2 CHC CHC Under

It’s now five straight games that the Padres have come up short of the run total with their opponents. They are the first MLB team to hit the under 40 times, and are providing a return of investment of almost 30% on under bets this year, by far the best of any team in the league.

If you’re into quirky betting trends, one that stands out because of its rather large sample size is the Padres tendency to go under the total when playing on Wednesday. In their last eight games in the middle day of the week, San Diego has hit gone below the betting line eight straight times.

Mariners vs Padres Prediction

With names like Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. you’d think the Padres would have one of the more fearsome MLB starting lineups in the game, but lately, they’ve been anything but scary. Over their last three games, the Padres have managed just 18 hits and one long ball.

Given the quality of the starters on the hill on Wednesday, it’s impossible for us to pick against the red hot trend, so our prediction is to count on the Padres to go under the betting line again versus the Mariners.

Pick: Under 8 Runs (-120)
