  • The Philadelphia Phillies are favorites over the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday, May 19th
  • Starting pitchers are Chase Burns up against Jesus Luzardo
  • Continue reading for my Reds vs Phillies preview and favorite bets

The Cincinnati Reds (24-24, 27-21 ATS) and Philadelphia Phillies (25-23, 15-33 ATS) continue their series tonight at Citizens Bank Park, with first pitch scheduled for 6:40 PM ET / 3:40 PM PT. This is the second of a three-game set in Philly, after the home squad secured a tight 5-4 victory yesterday behind home runs from Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott, who had the eventual game-winning 2-run HR in the 8th inning.

The MLB odds have installed the home team as favorites, despite Cincy clearly have the better starting pitcher. Keep reading for my breakdown as to why Philly are expected to win along with my best bets.

Reds vs Phillies Prediction & Best Bets

  • Cincinnati Reds Moneyline (+125 at Fanatics)

Given this pitching mismatch, my best bet is backing the road underdog Reds on the moneyline. Chase Burns has been stellar across 53.0 innings and consistently limits hard contact, sporting a .186 opponent batting average. While the Phillies lineup generates a .761 OPS at home, Burns has the raw stuff to navigate their order.

Jesus Luzardo’s vulnerability opens the door for Cincinnati’s lineup to manufacture enough runs. While he had a great start in his latest outing (no earned runs in six innings), in four of nine starts on the year, he’s allowed 5+ earned runs. The other five outings have been productive, but I like wagering on an underdog with it being such a question mark.

Take a look at the MLB batter vs pitcher stats for additional information to glean on before wagering on the Reds vs Phillies this evening.

My favorite prop bet features the Reds impressive second-year starter Chase Burns.

  • Chase Burns Over 6.5 Pitcher Strikeouts (+115 at BetMGM)

I love the plus money here with Burns boasting a 9.34 K/9 rate. His ability to miss bats and command the strike zone makes this an attractive proposition, even against a disciplined Philadelphia lineup. In four of his last five starts, and six of nine outings on the campaign, he’s reached the seven strikeout threshold.

Philadelphia has won eight of their last nine duels. They are a reliable 19-11 when playing as the betting favorite this season. Conversely, the Reds have been brutal on the road, dropping eleven of twelve.

In the MLB public betting splits, Philadelphia commands 56% of tickets, however 69% of the handle is on the underdog Reds, supporting my wager.

For the total, the Over is the overwhelming popular play. 83% of bets and 77% of the money are backing Over 8.5 runs.
