The Tampa Bay Rays (78-53) continue their series against the Detroit Tigers (61-70) tonight. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM ET at Comerica Park, broadcasting on RAYS and DSN.
I am targeting the road favorites in this contest. Tampa Bay captured a 4-1 victory over Detroit last night, capitalizing on nine hits, highlighted by a Jonathan Aranda home run, while playing flawless defense.
Conversely, the Tigers managed just five hits. Sitting third overall in the league standings, the playoff-contending Rays are a logical bet against a struggling Detroit squad that ranks 24th overall. Keep reading for my Rays vs Tigers best bets, props and predictions for Aug. 25, below.
Rays vs Tigers Best Bets, Props & Predictions
The Pick: Tampa Bay Rays Moneyline (Best price: 55¢ at Polymarket)
I am backing the road team and World Series odds contender heavily in this matchup. The definitive pick is the Tampa Bay Rays to win outright. Tampa Bay boasts a distinct offensive advantage, hitting .261 as a team compared to Detroit’s sluggish .241 mark.
Detroit is mired in a deep slump, winning just 10% of its last 10 games. Over their last 10 contests, the Tigers have failed to win a single game when listed as the underdog, going 0-6. Meanwhile, the Rays have posted a 65.5% win rate (55-29) as the betting favorite this season.
I also see decent value in laying 1.5 runs with the Rays at 42¢ at Kalshi. Tampa Bay’s speed on the basepaths and ability to manufacture runs make them a threat to cover the spread against a depleted pitching staff. Don’t forget to claim the Kalshi promo code before making a wager tonight.
Prop Pick: Ian Seymour Over 5.5 Pitcher Strikeouts (Best price: -106 at Caesars Sportsbook)
If you are looking to attack the MLB player props market, Ian Seymour offers a prime opportunity. Seymour has racked up an impressive 12.37 K/9 ratio this season across his MLB innings.
The Pick: Under 7.5 Runs (Best price: +100 at Caesars Sportsbook)
Finally, despite heavy public action on the over, I expect a pitching-dominated script. Detroit’s lack of offensive firepower makes a high-scoring shootout highly unlikely.
Ian Seymour vs Jackson Jobe Stats
Seymour takes the mound for Tampa Bay against right-hander Jackson Jobe for Detroit. Seymour boasts elite strikeout stuff, which allows him to limit baserunners and maintain a solid 1.18 WHIP. His 3.60 xFIP indicates he has pitched better than his traditional 4.53 ERA suggests.
Conversely, Jobe has allowed more traffic on the basepaths. He holds a .264 opponent batting average and has generated fewer swings and misses (7.07 K/9), leading to a higher 5.08 FIP. Detroit may need to rely on its bullpen relatively early if Jobe continues to allow frequent baserunners.
There is virtually no prior history between these MLB starting lineups and the opposing starters. Tampa Bay’s projected lineup has zero combined career at-bats against Jobe. Similarly, Detroit hitters have logged a mere seven total career at-bats against Seymour, leaving us without actionable MLB batter vs pitcher stats.
Rays vs Tigers Stats
The most glaring mismatch per the numbers is mobility. Tampa Bay leads all major league teams in road stolen bases, swiping a highly disruptive 1.15 bags per away game. Conversely, Detroit is stagnant at Comerica Park, ranking 29th in home steals with a mere 0.30 per contest.
Detroit actually hits the ball harder at home, sitting tied for seventh in average exit velocity (88.7 mph). However, the Rays’ ability to put the ball in play translates into a stellar .256 road batting average. Detroit heavily relies on hard contact rather than consistent situational hitting.
Rays vs Tigers Odds
The MLB odds heavily favor the visiting squad tonight, which aligns directly with my predictions.

Oddsmakers initially hung a standard -110 price on both the over and the under for 7.5 runs. However, lopsided MLB public betting action shifted the over to -120. Early splits reveal 84.3% of the total handle backs the over. I am confidently fading this public movement.
