It’s not the easiest stretch for the Yankees (55-50, 32-24 home). After dropping two of three to the American League leading Orioles, they close the month and begin August with three games against the AL’s second best squad, the Rays (64-44, 27-25 away), before meeting the defending World Series champs Astros for a four game set.
Those are three of the top seven current betting favorites in the World Series odds, so needless to say, their work is cut out for them. For now, Aaron Boone’s squad is focused on their encounter with Tampa on Monday, July 31st. First pitch is scheduled at 7:05 pm ET for a game you can see on Bally Sports Sun and the YES Network.
Below, you can find the Rays vs Yankees odds for this matchup, plus our breakdown and analysis leading to our best bet and prediction for this AL East clash.
Rays vs Yankees Odds
Team | Moneyline | Runline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Tampa Bay Rays | -185 | -1.5 (-120) | O 9 (+100) |
New York Yankees | +165 | +1.5 (+100) | U 9 (-120) |
These two sides have met seven times this year, with Tampa holding a 4-3 edge in victories. As we detail below, they’ll have the decided advantage in the pitching matchup to open the series, which is a big reason why the Rays are big -185 favorites to start off strong in the Bronx.
It should be a perfect night for baseball at Yankees Stadium with the forecasts calling for temperatures in the high to mid 70’s during game time with mild wind gusts.

Tampa Bay Rays vs New York Yankees Probable Pitchers
After sitting out the first couple of months of the season with an oblique injury, Tyler Glasnow seems to have found his groove for the Rays.
Tyler Glasnow 2023 Stats
Month | Record | ERA | OBA |
---|---|---|---|
July | 2-2 | 2.30 | .197 |
June | 2-1 | 4.15 | .219 |
He’s able to go deeper into games as he’s built up his arm strength and has allowed two earned runs or less in four straight starts. Unfortunately for the towering 29-year old, one of the most fearsome players in the MLB lineups for the Bronx Bombers returned to action on the weekend.
Aaron Judge went deep once against Baltimore on the weekend, but hasn’t had much success against Glasnow in his career, with only two hits in 10 at-bats and no homers.
Glasnow vs German Stats
4-3 | Record | 5-7 |
3.36 | ERA | 4.77 |
1.12 | WHIP | 1.09 |
.212 | OBA | .210 |
4.4 | SO/W Ratio | 3.4 |
A month ago, Domingo German was untouchable for one magical night, tossing the 24th perfect game in MLB history. There hasn’t been much else for him to celebrate before and after that though.
Since June 16th, Domingo German has a 7.12 ERA in 7 starts. That includes a perfect game.

The Yankees right-hander has given up at least five runs in four of his last seven starts. Overall, the Yankees have received pretty goof pitching this season, but besides Gerrit Cole, their rotation appears to be in shambles and a strong start from German in the series opener would definitely ease some worries for the Evil Empire.
Rays vs Yankees Picks
Given the unsteadiness of German and the rejuvenation of Glasnow, the Rays have been made pretty strong chalk in the MLB odds for this one.
Despite that fact, it’s a bit head scratching that you can get even money if you bet on the Yanks to cover the run line, especially with the recent return of their slugger. This is a crucial series for them and in seven matchups against the Rays this season, they have only lost by more than a single run once.

In the month of August, Tampa is 4-7 away from home with two of those victories coming against the lowly Royals. Our prediction is that the Yankees keep this one close at the very least, so take the tremendous odds at +100 on the run line with the Bronx Bombers while you can still get them.
Pick: New York Yankees Run Line +1.5 (+100)
