The Cubs (37-35) host the Rockies (27-45) tonight at Wrigley Field in the first of a three-game set in the Windy City. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 PM ET / 5:05 PM PT, and you can watch it on Marquee Sports Network or Rockies.TV. Colorado exploded for a franchise-record 23 runs in their beatdown of the Athletics Sunday, while the Cubbies failed to the sweep the Giants.

Despite the offensive explosion by the Rockies, they’re still considerable underdogs in the MLB odds against Chicago. The pitching matchup features Michael Lorenzen, who has been hit hard on the campaign, against Shota Imanaga, who has fared much better. Keep reading for my Rockies vs Cubs preview, with my favorites picks and an MLB player prop I’m intrigued by.

Rockies vs Cubs Picks & Predictions

After Colorado’s ridiculous 23 run outburst Sunday, I’m quite confident in selecting over ten runs to be scored in this game, particularly considering the pitching matchup. The Rockies’ Michael Lorenzen has a ghastly 7.54 ERA with a 1.90 WHIP. He did manage to give up just one run in his latest start, which happened to also be against the Cubs, but he’s been so wildly inconsistent, I can’t trust him to replicate that.

Expect a high-scoring affair. Chicago’s lineup should cure its offensive woes facing a struggling starter and a Colorado bullpen carrying a 5.22 ERA.

For the MLB player props, I’m eying Michael Busch. He leads Chicago with 42 RBIs this season, presenting fantastic plus-money value to drive in at least one run tonight. Given Lorenzen’s propensity to put runners on base (3.29 BB/9), Busch will likely step to the plate with ample traffic on the basepaths. In the recent series vs Colorado, he had an RBI in two of three meetings, and has six total RBI in the last six contests.

In the MLB public betting splits, 86% of wagers and cash has been plunked down on the home favorites. On the runline, bettors are still bullish on the Cubs, with 84% of tickets on them. In terms of the 9.5 over/under run total, 80% of bets and 91% of the moola is on the Over hitting, which dovetails with my prediction.
