Neither of the last two AL East Division champions are off to roaring starts. Both the New York Yankees (2019) and Tampa Bay Rays (2020) are 3-4 for the 2021 MLB season.
However, the dominance of the Rays over the Yankees is continuing unsubsided. Friday’s 10-5 victory for Tampa Bay over the Yanks was the 14th recorded by the Rays in the last 18 games.
Nonetheless, oddsmakers are staying with the Yankees. New York is a -122 favorite as the two clubs meet again on Saturday. At Tropicana Field, Tampa Bay is 8-2 straight up through the past 10 games against the Yankees.
The first pitch for Saturday’s game is set for 1:10pm ET. Cool weather is in the forecast – 34 degrees, cloudy skies and 11 mph wind. The Yes Network and Bally Sports Sun are carrying the broadcast.

Injury Updates

However, Yankees manager Aaron Boone believes that his slugging outfielder should be back in the lineup for Saturday’s game.
New York was also without third baseman Gio Urshela. He was placed on the COVID-19 injured list due to side effects after receiving a vaccination. Left-handed pitcher Justin Wilson (left shoulder tightness) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list.
Tampa Bay placed right-handed pitcher Pete Fairbanks (right rotator strain) on the 10-day IL. He’s expected to be out for a month.
Archer Solid Against Yankees
One week ago, Chris Archer made his first appearance on the hill since August 20th, 2019 in relief of starter Rich Hill. He took the loss against the Miami Marlins. Archer allowed four runs – three of them earned – on four hits and a walk over two innings.
Despite the poor results in their first outings, Michael Wacha and Chris Archer displayed new and improved 4-seam fastballs. They both added a few inches of "rise" to their FBs while losing some arm-side run. This is ideal for pitching at the top of the zone pic.twitter.com/s8WQ69dK5k

Alarmingly, the velocity on his fastball was down to 90.8 mph. Archer was averaging 94.1 with his fastball in 2019 before undergoing surgery to relieve symptoms of neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS).
