  • The Boston Red Sox are -165 home favorites over the New York Yankees in Saturday’s American League game between these two age-old rivals
  • The BoSox have won the first two games of this four-game weekend set
  • Boston are 5-0 straight up over the Yanks in their last five meetings at Fenway Park – read below for betting analysis

The Boston Red Sox (60-38, 30-19 home) are rolling as they play host to the New York Yankees (50-46, 23-23 home) on Saturday in the latest renewal of one of baseball’s longest-standing rivalries. Boston is riding a four-game winning streak, while the Yankees have lost two straight.

The series between the Yankees and Red Sox is turning into a tale of two cities. At Yankee Stadium, the Bronx Bombers halted Boston’s four-game winning streak and have won two in a row.

Turning to Fenway Park, it’s been all BoSox. Boston has won six straight from the Yanks. That includes the opening two games of this four-game weekend set.

Oddsmakers anticipate that roll continuing. The Red Sox are -165 odds-on favorites to win Saturday afternoon’s game at Fenway.

Jameson Taillon continues to rehabilitate his 2021 season. The Yankees right-hander has won his last three decisions. New York owns a 4-1 slate over Taillon’s past five trips to the bump.

In his last three starts, Taillon has checked opponents on three earned runs over 18.1 innings pitched. He’s struck out 16 while walking just five.

His last start was against Boston at Yankee Stadium. Taillon held the BoSox off the scoresheet for 5.1 innings to get the win. Taillon is 3-0 with a 1.53 ERA in his career against Boston.

However, he’ll be facing an all-star on Saturday afternoon in Nathan Eovaldi. The 31-year-old right-hander has proven to be Boston’s top starter with a 9-5 record and 3.57 ERA.

Eovaldi leads the AL in fielding independent pitching (2.58) and home runs allowed per nine inning (0.4). That latter digit is an impressive stat for a hurler who does a significant amount of his work at homer-happy Fenway. He also ranks among the top 6% in the AL in bases on balls percentage (4.6).

He worked five innings of one-run ball in a no-decision against the Yankees in his last start. Overall, he’s 2-0 against the Yanks in 2021 with a 1.44 ERA. Eovaldi is checking New York hitters on a .230 batting average. Over 12 career appearances vs the Yanks, he’s 3-2 with a 2.88 ERA.

Yankees vs Red Sox Pick

Of late, the Yankees-Red Sox series is proving to be a tale of going streaking. Prior to Boston’s six-game run at Fenway, the Yanks won five in a row there. Overall, the teams haven’t traded wins back and forth in three consecutive games since 2019.

As well as Taillon is bouncing back this season, the fact of the matter is that Eovaldi has been on his game all year long. And his career numbers against the Yankees are consistently solid.

Pick: Boston Red Sox (-165).
