The annual NBA Slam Dunk Contest takes place tonight at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The four-man competition features reigning-champion Mac McClung (even though he isn’t currently in the NBA), Boston’s Jaylen Brown, Miami’s Jaime Jaquez Jr, and New York’s Jacob Toppin, brother of 2022 Dunk Contest-winner Obi Toppin.
The 2024 NBA Slam Dunk Contest odds heavily favor fan-favorite McClung with Brown a distant second and Jaquez and Toppin tied for the longest odds.

There is no definitive start time to the Dunk Contest. It will be the final event on Saturday, after the Skills Challenge, 3-Point Contest, and the Steph Curry vs Sabrina Ionescu Shootout.
McClung Dominantes Last Year’s Edition of the Dunk Contest
The main reason why McClung is a prohibitively short favorite in the 2024 Slam Dunk Contest odds is his dominant performance in last year’s event. McClung ran away with the title, garnering perfect scores on three out of his four dunks.
Last year’s runner-up, Trey Murphy III, is not among the field this time out. The other three contestants are all first-time NBA Dunk Contest participants.
Of the other three competitors, Brown undeniably has the best resume of in-game dunks. He’s also by far the biggest star in the field, which could work in his favor with the judges.
There is footage on Facebook of Jaquez winning a dunk contest in high-school. While that is ancient history at this point – and his repertoire may have expanded significantly – there is nothing in the footage which would suggest he’s going to dethrone McClung, who’s promised innovative new additions this year.

NBA Slam Dunk Contest Picks and Best Bets
With very little to go on for Brown, Jaquez, and Toppin, McClung is the surest bet. But his price tag (-275) is hard to stomach. Bettors would have to lay down $275 to win $100. A $50 bet on McClung at that price would only return an $18 profit.
Based on the current odds, I would much prefer to take a shot on Toppin. We know he has the genetics to pull off phenomenal dunks, and his G-League highlight reel proves it positively. I also doubt he would have accepted the invitation if he didn’t think he could live up to the massive shoes his brother left him.
