The Memphis Grizzlies are seeing the full package of how the Utah Jazz overwhelm the opposition.

Even with a strong performance in Game 3, Donovan Mitchell and company were just too good in a 121-111 victory, taking their second straight to take a 2-1 series lead.

With an ultra-important Game 4 Sunday, oddsmakers are giving their due respect to the top seed in the NBA playoffs, listing Utah as a 5-point road favorite in Game 4.

Injury Report

Both teams enter Game 4 as healthy as you can hope for in the playoffs. The only player on either roster on the injury list is Grizzlies’ guard Sean McDermott. The seldom-used rookie is battling a foot injury.

Mitchell Matters

He might not be at the level of the LeBron’s, KD’s or Curry’s, but Donovan Mitchell is pretty good, and especially important to everything the Utah Jazz want to do.

His effect of being on the court can be seen in Utah’s 3-point attack. With Mitchell sidelined in Game 1, Utah wasn’t able to bend the defense to get their snipers those clean triples, finishing 12-for-47, a 25.5% clip. In Game 2 and 3 wins, the Jazz have drilled 38-for-82 from deep (19 in each game), a blistering 46.3% average.

After scoring 20 points in the 2nd half tonight, Donovan Mitchell is averaging 27.3 PPG through 25 career playoff games.

Mitchell himself has looked good, scoring 25 points, including 5-for-10 from deep in a Game 2 blowout win. The full Mitchell experience was on display Friday in Game 3. He finished with 29 points and five assists, but was especially impactful in winning time, scoring 10 fourth quarter points to break a close game wide open.

He had plenty of help too with backcourt mate Mike Conley Jr, making his first playoff appearance in the venue he dominated for so long. Conely had 27 points, including seven three-balls, as well as eight assists and seven boards.

A Grizzly Finish

The Grizzlies were in Game 3 almost the whole way. Ja Morant, fresh off a 47-point effort, looked good again, dropping 28 points and seven dimes. Dillon Brooks also had a big scoring night, putting up 27 points before fouling out.

Their efforts tied the game 98-98 with four minutes to go, but they didn’t have the closing punch. Memphis finished 9-for-26 from the field in the fourth quarter, just a 34.6% average, while going a cold 2-for-12 from three-point range (16.7%).

In fact, the Grizzlies managed only 13-for-41 from three-point range for the game. Memphis might not be able to beat Utah in a three-point shootout, but they’ll need to have a stronger effort than 31.7%. The only Memphis player to have any success from beyond the arc was Grayson Allen, who shot 5-for-8 from distance, en route to his series high of 17 points.

Calling Jonas Valanciunas’ number might be what they need. The Memphis big man took only three shots and went scoreless in the first half – the first time all season he’s been shut out in the first half this season. He finished with 10 points and 13 boards.

Best Bet

The Grizzlies have been way more competitive than anyone expected, and there’s no reason to believe they won’t show up again in their biggest game of the year. They’re 20-15 this season coming off a loss, and they’re 8-6 ATS as a home underdog.

Still, if Utah delivers the same balance as they did in Game 3 — where six players scored in double digits — and they hit at the same three-point clip they did in the regular season (where they averaged 17 makes a game), it’s going to be tough for Memphis to get inside that five-point spread. Utah is 18-15 ATS as a road favorite, and they’re an impressive 37-16 this year following a win.
