Somewhere down the line, we could be looking at a potential Eastern Conference Finals matchup between the Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks.
But for now? We’re in NBA Summer League, with perhaps a few players that might get bench spots on both of these rosters when the games really matter.
For their part, Detroit has been by far the more competitive of the two teams, splitting their first time games, while the Knicks have yet to win, and yet to cross the 70-point plateau.
That’s a big reason why the sportsbooks have the Pistons as pretty hefty 7.5-point favorties.
Action gets underway at 4pm ET from the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas. Read below for my Pistons vs Knicks picks and updated betting odds.

The Knicks might be the defending champions, and the team with the 4th-best NBA championship odds to repeat in 2026-27, but this is about as far as this organization will be from the title chase.
New York has been a near no-show in Vegas, getting crushed last game 70-49 against the San Antonio Spurs, just a day after getting rocked by the Brooklyn Nets, 91-65.
There are no second-year players of consequence that are fighting for roster spots, and in terms of bright, fresh faces, there are only a pair of Round 2 picks: guards Jack Kayil (39th) and Tyler Nickel (47th).
Nickel has been the most notable player on the floor (it’s hard to say best when your team has combined to score 114 points in two games total), averaging 17 points on 48% shooting.
Kayil has played in just one game, but he also looked good, scoring 12 points on 5-for-14 shooting. The only other player of consequence has been 6-foot-9 forward Pacome Dadiet, who had 20 points and seven boards vs Brooklyn, and 13 points vs San Antonio.
Detroit is a different story. The top-seeded team in the East flared out early in the postseason, and there are spaces available to make an impact.
First-round pick Ebuka Okorie is the only player in this game that’s likely to work his way into the NBA Rookie of the Year odds, and truth be told, Detroit is desperate for anyone that can come in and create offense to take some of the load off star Cade Cunningham.
Okorie hasn’t disappointed. He opened Summer League with a bang, dropping 20 on 8-for-16 shooting to go with four assists in their 101-93 loss to Philadelphia. He follwed that up with 14 points and seven steals in a win over the Cavs Sunday.
Second-round pick Chaz Lanier is another guard showing he can slide into the rotation, as he exploded for a team-high 25 points — which included a sizzling 7-for-12 from downtown.
Detroit’s roster is built to unlock their targeted draft picks into a team that lacked offensive juice, while the Knicks are hoping to unearth a hidden gem to help a roster that’s currently stacked.
That’s shown in the Knicks’ results early, and will be the same again Monday.

Detroit opens as an extremely short -330 on the moneyline, while taking New York to win outright comes at long +265 odds.
Looking at the spread, Detroit is a 7.5-point favorite, and they’ve gone 1-1 against the spread with that figure. New York hasn’t even come close to a single digit loss, let alone eight points.
The total checks in at 169.5 points, with -110 odds on either side of the total.
