The Knicks bring a 3-2 series lead into Atlanta for Game 6 tonight, looking to close out the Hawks. Online sportsbooks like their chances, pegging New York as short favorites in the latest NBA odds. My favorite NBA props pick tonight is over 27.5 points for Brunson. New York’s star guard is coming off his best performance of this year’s postseason so far, and his outrageous usage is just too high to ignore. Brunson has been virtually unguardable in this series, racking up 141 total points through five games. He’s currently averaging 28.2 points per outing, clearing this number in 80% of his playoff appearances.

During the regular season, Brunson averaged 26.0 points per game, and was a big reason why the Knicks were such a popular pick in the NBA Championship odds. However, the playoffs have unlocked an entirely different gear. He is shooting a blistering 41.9% from three-point range in the postseason. Brunson draws a dream matchup against an Atlanta defense yielding 113.4 opponent points per game right now.

Against a defensive unit allowing teams to shoot 38.4% from beyond the arc, Brunson’s massive 34.2% usage rate guarantees he will see the volume necessary to cash this over. The Hawks simply cannot stop him from getting to his spots.

Johnson meanwhile, is actually due for some heavy positive regression. At first glance, a 6.5 assist line seems risky since he averages just 5 dimes per contest this postseason. However, diving into his regular-season splits reveals a massive statistical edge at State Farm Arena.

Johnson established a tremendous playmaking baseline during the regular season, averaging 7.9 assists per game. More importantly, he went over this 6.5 passing line in 68% of his home games, averaging 8.2 assists across 34 appearances. The Hawks desperately need to return to their drive-and-kick offensive identity tonight.

With New York willingly surrendering 36.6 three-point attempts per game, Johnson’s role as a primary facilitator will be heavily magnified. I expect Atlanta to lean on their versatile forward to break down the interior and distribute to perimeter shooters.
