The Boston Celtics return home for Game 5 of their 1st Round series with a chance to close out the Philadelphia 76ers. The Celtics swept both games in Philly to take a commanding 3-1 series lead, and online sportsbooks don’t expect much of a fight from the Sixers tonight, pegging Boston as big favorites in the NBA odds.

Despite the lofty 10.5 point spread, I think you can make the case that line isn’t high enough. I expect Boston to rely heavily on their star duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown to seal the series.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm ET from TD Garden in Boston, MA, with ESPN handling the coverage for American viewers, and TSN broadcasting the game across Canada.

I’m laying the hefty 10.5 points with the Celtics tonight, as Boston’s proven ability to suffocate top-tier teams makes them a reliable play. Despite dropping Game 2 at home, Boston has since dominated, winning Games 3 and 4 on the road. They’ve covered in three of four games so far, while the Sixers are a dismal 1-4 against the spread over their last five games after a loss.

To put it bluntly, this series has been a massive statistical mismatch. Boston yields an incredibly stingy 99.5 points per game (2nd in the playoffs) with a smothering 104.3 defensive rating. They lead all playoff teams by vacuuming up 55.9% of available rebounds, while the Sixers rank dead last at 44.1%. This massive disparity naturally trickles down into Boston’s elite production in second-chance points, allowing them to extend possessions and wear down Philadelphia’s already porous defense.

This matchup is an undeniable under spot based on glaring situational trends. The over has hit in just one of Boston’s last six games at home against opponents with a winning record. On the Philadelphia side, situational scoring has completely dried up; the over failed to hit in each of their last four road games following a loss. Expect a physical, slow-paced half-court playoff grinder. Lock in the under.

With Boston poised for a massive home closeout, Jayson Tatum will have to be the primary engine of the offense. The volume will absolutely be there for the star forward to eclipse 24.5 points, making him my top NBA props target.
