Clemson Betting Outlook

Clemson, the last unbeaten team in the ACC, needed a second-half rally behind reserve freshman quarterback Cade Klubnik to beat Syracuse two weeks ago. Regardless, DJ Uiagalelei remains the starter.

With the Tigers losing 21-10, coach Dabo Swinney went with Klubnik to start the second half. Clemson outscored Syracuse 17-0 in the final two quarters while holding the Orange to 119 total yards.

Klubnik, a five-star recruit, had minimal impact. He completed two of four passes for 19 yards while Clemson relied on its rushing game.

Will Shipley had 172 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in 27 carries, including a go-ahead 50-yard score with 11:26 left. Shipley has 739 yards and 10 TDs in 123 attempts this season and is third in the ACC in both yardage and scores.

Shipley has Heisman Trophy odds of +10000.

Uiagalelei had a rough time against Syracuse as he was intercepted twice – as many as he had in the first seven games of the season — and lost a fumble. However, Uiagalelei is third in the conference in touchdown passes (17) and fifth in passing yards (1,803) with a 63.8% completion rate.

Antonio Williams is Clemson’s top receiver with 29 catches for 364 yards and two touchdowns.

Clemson is 20th in the nation in scoring offense (37.1) and 22nd in scoring defense (19.9).

Linebacker Barrett Carter has been cleared to return after sitting out the Syracuse game while in concussion protocol.

Notre Dame Betting Outlook

Notre Dame’s win over Syracuse was its 26th straight against an ACC opponent.

The Fighting Irish relied heavily on the running game as Audric Estime and Logan Diggs both had 20 carries. Estime finished with 123 yards and touchdowns while Diggs had 85 yards and one score.

The duo has combined for 989 yards this season – 558 by Estime and 431 by Diggs. Estime also has eight rushing touchdowns on 99 carries. Diggs has 95 rushing attempts and scored once on the ground.

Brandon Joseph helped set the tone for Notre Dame when he returned an interception 29 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage.

Quarterback Drew Pyne was asked to be a game manager with Notre Dame outgaining Syracuse 246-61 in rushing yards. He was 9-of-19 passing for 116 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Pyne has completed 61.8% of his attempts this season for 1,193 yards, 13 TDs and four picks.

Notre Dame has one of the best tight ends in the nation in Michael Mayer. He leads the team with 47 receptions, 550 receiving yards and six touchdown catches.

Mayer holds the school career record for receiving yards by a tight end with 1,870.

Clemson vs Notre Dame Prediction

Clemson leads the all-time series 4-2 and won the last meeting 34-10 in the 2020 ACC Championship Game. Notre Dame, who was an ACC member for one year only during the pandemic-altered season, got five catches for 51 yards from Mayer in that game.

Clemson has a clear path to the College Football Playoff, but Notre Dame could trip the Tigers up now that it has its season on track.

Pick: Notre Dame +4 (-110)
