Colorado’s 2023 Win Total Released After Deion Sanders Accepts Coaching Job – See Over/ Under Odds
- Deion Sanders is Colorado’s new head coach, tasked with turning around one of the worst Power-5 programs in the country
- Sanders led Jackson State to an undefeated season in 2022, and his Buffaloes have an over/under wins total of 5.5 for his first season
- Keep reading for analysis on whether or not CU is a good bet to exceed their 2023 win total, plus additional Sanders props
It’s officially Primetime in Colorado, and it didn’t take Deion Sanders long to ruffle a few feathers on his first day of the job. Sanders was named head coach of the lowly Buffaloes program over the weekend, and his message to the current players was simple: Leave.
Sanders is expected to completely overhaul the Colorado program, looking everywhere but inside his own building for talent to do so. That was the strategy he deployed successfully over three years at Jackson State, and it’s hard to blame him for wanting nothing to do with current members of the Buffaloes program.
Colorado won just one game in 2022. They’ve been Pac-12 bottom-feeders for the past decade, posting just one winning season. Deion won’t stand for mediocrity, let alone losing, and brings an impressive track record with him. Coach Prime was 27-5 in three seasons at Jackson State. He’s fresh off a perfect 12-0 record in 2022 and back-to-back SWAC Championships.
Colorado 2023 Regular Season Win Total
Wins | Odds |
---|---|
Over 5.5 | -120 |
Under 5.5 | -120 |
*All odds as of December 6th.
Online sportsbooks are hesitant to crown Sanders the Buffalo’s savior just yet though. They posted Colorado with a 2023 win total of 5.5, suggesting they’re just as likely to finish below .500 as above it.
Sanders Will Find Success Early
Perhaps, oddsmakers are not giving Coach Prime the respect he deserves. First of all, let’s not forget he’s a master recruiter. This is the same man that convinced last year’s second-overall recruit to come to Jackson State, an FCS school, as opposed to a prestigious FBS powerhouse.
Multiple high-profile players have already expressed interest in entering the transfer portal to join Sanders in Colorado and it’s not hard to see why. The Buffaloes will be one of the intensely covered teams next season. The exposure Coach Prime and his players are set to receive will be second to none. Let’s be honest, what college kid doesn’t want to constantly be in the spotlight?
The buzz here is insane. Deion Sanders asked if he's worried about living up to this hype: "Do I look like a man who worries about anything? I’m too blessed to be stretched." #cubuffs

More exposure in today’s day and age means more opportunities to be seen by NFL scouts. It also means more opportunities for lucrative NIL deals.
CU has already launched a collection of donations to allow the football team to compete with conference rivals in NIL deals, and has also relaxed is rules regarding transfer credits. This will put the Buffaloes on a level playing field with all the major players in college football, and allow Sanders to bring in whoever he wants.
Coach Prime wasted no time hiring an offensive guru to run his offense, stealing Kent State head coach Sean Lewis to be his OC. Lewis’ offenses at Kent finished top-five in the nation in total offense in 2020 and 21, and they led the country in scoring in 2020. He runs an extremely fast, wide-open attack that should suit Colorado’s brand-new QB just fine.
Deion Sanders Record at Jackson State
Year | Record | SWAC Finish |
---|---|---|
2022 | 12-0 | First |
2021 | 11-2 | First |
2020 | 4-3 | Fourth |
That would be Sanders’ son Shadeur. He threw for 3,383 yards and 36 TD for Jackson State this past season, while rushing for an additional five scores. If he replicates that production next season, he’ll be a contender in the Heisman Trophy odds.
With CU primed to add a wealth of talent to their roster via the transfer portal, expect them to be competitive right away and eclipse this win total.
Pick: Colorado Over 5.5 wins in 2023 (-120)
Expect Sanders to Stick Around in Colorado
Online sportsbooks have posted additional Sanders props in regards to how long his tenure in Colorado will last, and where he’ll end up next.
Odds Sanders is Colorado’s Coach in 2024
Outcome | Odds |
---|---|
Yes | -200 |
No | +150 |
The prop that looks the most predictive has to do with his tenure with the Buffaloes. Coach Prime signed a five-year contract with Colorado, and it features heavy monetary penalties for the school if they dismiss him early.
This will not be a short-lived experiment for a couple reasons. First, it will take more than a year or two for Sanders to turn CU into a true conference contender – if he’s able to do so. He should be able to win his fair share of games from the jump, but it will take time and continuity to compete with the heavyweights in the National Championship odds.
Lord that PORTAL is jumping! Let me see what's in there….! "I ain't Hard To Find" #CoachPrime

Secondly, other major schools are going to want to see a body of work of more than one season at the FBS level. Winning at Jackson State versus a bunch of FCS opponents is one thing, but prominent potential suitors of Coach Prime aren’t going to back up the Brinks truck until they see a more complete coaching resume.
