NFL Hall of Famer Deion “Prime Time” Sanders is the new head coach of the Buffaloes and he’s talked a big game since arriving in Boulder. Finally, the Buffaloes are going to get the chance to play a big game for him.

Oddsmakers are not anticipating that it will go well for Colorado. TCU is set as 20.5-point home favorites. The Buffaloes are 1-5 against the spread over their last six games.

Let’s dive into the Colorado vs TCU odds and offer you our prediction for this college football Week 1 showdown.

Last year’s 38-13 TCU win at Colorado was the first-ever meeting between these two schools. The Horned Frogs covered as the 13.5-point chalk in that game.

Kickoff for this game at Amon G. Carter Stadium on Saturday, September 2 is set for 12:00pm ET. The broadcast is being carried by ESPN.

Buffaloes vs Horned Frogs Betting Splits

Sanders appears to be winning the battle of public opinion at the very least. The NCAA public betting splits are showing that there’s faith among the people in the Buffaloes. In spread splits, Colorado at +20.5 is pulling 70% of handle and 66% of bets. TCU is 10-4-1 ATS over the past 15 games. The Buffaloes are also getting 70% of handle in the moneyline splits. However, 63% of moneyline bets are backing TCU. The Buffs are 0-6 straight up in their last six games.

On the total, the over is the people’s choice. It’s getting 60% of handle and 70% of bets. The total has gone over in five of Colorado’s last six games.

TCU is the co-25th betting choice in the National Championship odds at +20000.  Colorado is given a line of +40000 in this betting market. Colorado’s 2023 NCAA win total odds are set at 3.5. Over is worth the favored betting line of -154, while under is set at +126.

Buffaloes Entering Their Prime

Already enshrined in both the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame, should he right the ship for the Buffaloes, Coach Prime might be a candidate for sainthood in the Boulder State. He’s the sixth coach at the school since 2018.

Colorado went 1-11 last season and Sanders gutted the roster. Only 10 of 84 scholarship athletes from last year’s team remain with the Buffaloes, just three on defense. Colorado was last in the nation in scoring defense last season, allowing 44.5 points per game.

Of the 114 players currently rostered, 86 are in their first season with the team. Sanders brought three players with him from Jackson State, including his sons – quarterback Shedeur Sanders and safety Shilo Sanders. Shedeur Sanders threw for 70 TDs and 6,9833 yards and ran for nine TDs as a two-year starter at Jackson State.

TCU Is Rebuilding Mode

Following the biggest football season in school history, the Horned Frogs saw graduation slash the club’s lineup. The offense might not average 39 points per game this season, but they’ll still be potent.

Chandler Morris is at QB and he was last year’s Week 1 starter against Colorado. A Morris knee injury in that game opened the door to Max Duggan’s spectacular 2022 campaign.

WR Savion Williams and All-Big 12 TE Jared Wiley return. To them add three WR transfers – JoJo Earle (Alabama), JP Richardson (Oklahoma State), Jack Bech (LSU) – as well as Alabama transfer Trey Sanders at RB. Three of five starters along the offensive line are back. Guard Willis Patrick, a Jackson State transfer, gets to play his first TCU game against his old coach.

Colorado vs TCU Prediction

TCU won’t be sneaking up on anybody this season, but the Horned Frogs won’t need to be on their A-game to take care of the Buffaloes. With 88.1% roster turnover, Colorado can’t get much worse than 1-11, but it’s a stretch to think the Buffs will be significantly better by Week 1 of the season.

Colorado vs TCU Pick: TCU -20.5 (-110)
