It appears as though Oklahoma doesn’t need Lincoln Riley to continue producing Heisman-level quarterbacks. Sooners’ QB Dillon Gabriel has become a top-five 2022 Heisman favorite after showing out versus Nebraska in Week 3.
Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, the preseason Heisman favorite, took a big dip in the odds following Week 3. Ohio State’s CJ Stroud, meanwhile, sits atop the odds board after balling out vs Toledo.
Let’s take a look at the updated Heisman odds and break down the movement.

Dillon Gabriel Heisman Odds
Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel entered Week 3 of college football with +3000 odds to win the Heisman at FanDuel. By the time the Sooners’ game against Nebraska ended, Gabriel was sitting at +1600 to win the trophy.
Gabriel threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead OU to a 49-14 blowout victory over the Cornhuskers. The senior pivot went 16 of 27 passing for 230 yards before giving way to OU’s backup QB early in the third quarter.

Gabriel still sits a far distance back of the top-three Heisman favorites, but he’s working himself into the conversation. Oklahoma’s second-half schedule is loaded, so Gabriel will have the opportunity to show out against quality opponents.
Oklahoma has produced a Heisman-finalist quarterback in four of the past six years, and Gabriel is next in line to continue the trend. In three starts at OU so far, Gabriel has thrown for 759 yards and seven TDs with no picks.
Bryce Young Heisman Odds
Preseason Heisman favorite Bryce Young saw his odds fade for the second consecutive weekend following Week 3. The second-year starter threw two picks in Alabama’s 63-7 romp of ULM on Saturday.
Young still had a strong game overall, accounting for four touchdowns and throwing for 236 yards. His odds faded from +300 to +500 after the game, mainly because the interceptions come one week after Young underwhelmed vs Texas.
There’s no doubting Young is one of the most talented quarterbacks in the country, but the odds shift is warranted when you consider just how hard it is to repeat. There has only ever been one repeat Heisman winner.
Unlike previous years, Alabama doesn’t appear to have dynamic playmakers at the wide receiver position. No Alabama WR is among the top 100 in FBS receiving yards this season, so it’s worrisome Young hasn’t found himself a go-to target entering SEC play.
Other Risers and Fallers in Heisman Odds
The top of the Heisman odds board has remained relatively unchanged since the start of the season, but there’s been notable movement outside the top three. The biggest Week 3 riser was Washington’s Michael Penix Jr, who improved from +10000 to +4100.
Penix Jr threw for 397 yards and four touchdowns in the Huskies’ 39-28 victory over the Spartans. Many were shocked to see UW favored in this game, but the oddsmakers knew Penix Jr was capable of torching this MSU secondary like he did last season.

Speaking of the Big 10, Michigan is an interesting team when it comes to the Heisman. Talented youngster JJ McCarthy has taken over QB duties for the Wolverines, but he actually faded from +2000 to +3000 after his teammate Blake Corum stole the show with five TDs in Week 3.
Bettors with Will Anderson Heisman tickets, meanwhile, aren’t going to be happy to see that the Alabama DE faded from +4000 to +5000 after Week 3. Anderson had a pick-six against the Warhawks, but his overall body of work through three games hasn’t impressed oddsmakers.
Anderson is facing a massive uphill battle to win the Heisman considering the position he plays, so we can understand why sportsbooks are skeptical. The Alabama star needs to be the undisputed best player on the field every game considering how hard it is for a defensive player to win.
