Hendon Hooker Heisman Odds

Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker saw significant improvement in his odds to win the Heisman following Week 8. The senior pivot passed for 276 yards and three touchdowns in a 65-24 victory over FCS UT Martin.

Hooker didn’t have one of his best games statistically in Week 8 (only played first half), but sportsbooks were still impressed by his performance. Both FanDuel and DraftKings shortened Hooker’s Heisman odds from +550 to +200 over the weekend.

Hooker is having an incredible season, as emphasized by the fact he’s now a top-two Heisman favorite despite opening as a +6000 longshot. In seven starts, Hooker has thrown for 2,093 yards and 18 TDs with only one interception.

Hooker has now thrown a TD pass in 19 straight games, which speaks to his consistency. He’s also on the verge of being the Heisman favorite due to his rushing ability (315 Rush YDs), which is something CJ Stroud is lacking.

CJ Stroud Heisman Odds

Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud remains the Heisman favorite after Week 8, but he may not have the lead for long. Week 8 marked the second straight weekend Stroud failed to see any improvement in his Heisman chances.

Stroud struggled in the first half vs Iowa on Saturday before finding his rhythm in the second half to lead the Buckeyes to a 54-10 victory. The junior pivot finished 20-of-30 for 286 yards and four TDs with one interception.

Stroud entered the game vs Iowa with +100 odds to win the Heisman at FanDuel, and those are the exact odds he finished the game with. The lack of odds shift is despite the Buckeyes keeping Stroud in the whole game, possibly to bolster his numbers.

On the season, Stroud has thrown for 2,023 yards and 28 TDs with four interceptions. Those interceptions are likely a key factor in the recent odds, as Stroud has thrown a pick in four straight games.

Hooker vs Stroud Stats Comparison

We can analyze Hooker vs Stroud after Week 8, but the debate is likely to settle itself. Hooker still has to face Georgia, while Stroud has to play Michigan. Those two games, plus the conference championships, will be a huge determining factor for the Heisman.

In the event both players continue producing at their current pace, which will be more deserving of the Heisman? Let’s analyze the key stats for Stroud vs Hooker and determine if the Heisman odds are an accurate portrayal of the current race.

Hendon Hooker vs CJ Stroud Stats

Hendon Hooker
VS
CJ Stroud
7-0 Record 7-0
2,093 Passing Yards 2,023

70.6% Completion Percentage 70.0%
190.8 Passer Rating 203.9
315 Rushing Yards -9
3 Rushing Touchdowns 0

When it comes to Hooker vs Stroud, the Tennesse pivot holds the edge in the ground game. But Stroud’s 28 touchdowns are tops in the country and put the OSU pivot on pace for an insane 50-plus TD season.

If Stroud and Hooker continue balling out to lead their respective teams to conference titles, Stroud will win the Heisman as long as he cleans up the turnovers. His numbers will be just too elite to give the trophy to anyone else.

Where it gets interesting is if Hooker has another Alabama-type game vs Georgia. The Big 10 is a strong conference, but they don’t offer a 1-2 punch like Alabama-Georgia. There are many what-ifs that could send the 2022 Heisman race down to the wire.
