One man’s loss is another man’s treasure when it comes to the Heisman Trophy race. LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels became a massive favorite in the Heisman odds on Friday night even though his team wasn’t playing a game.

Previous Heisman favorite Bo Nix suffered a crushing loss to Washington in the Pac-12 Championship, causing Daniels to overtake Nix in the Heisman odds. Sportsbooks are implying Daniels has virtually locked up the trophy.

Jayden Daniels Heisman Odds

LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels has already played his last regular season game of the season, but that didn’t prevent oddsmakers from adjusting his Heisman odds while he was idle. Daniels’ odds improved from +160 to -800 after Oregon lost to Washington on Friday night.

Daniels’ odds have been steadily improving throughout the early morning hours of Saturday and into the afternoon. FanDuel shortened Daniels’ Heisman odds to -1450 on Saturday morning, and even further to -1700 at time of publishing.

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix was the -200 Heisman favorite entering the Pac-12 Title Game, but he basically needed to defeat the Huskies to maintain his position. Nix’s odds lengthened to +2500 as he suffered his second loss to Washington this season and failed to deliver a “Heisman moment” on the big stage.

Will Jayden Daniels Win the Heisman?

Yes, Jayden Daniels will win the Heisman barring some unforeseen circumstances. Daniels’ updated price in the Heisman odds implies there’s a 94% chance the LSU pivot will win the trophy. The 24-year-old will become the third LSU Heisman winner in the program’s history, joining Joe Burrow and Billy Cannon.

There isn’t a legitimate challenger to Daniels now that Nix suffered an upset loss to the Huskies. Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. is the leader of an undefeated Huskies team, but his numbers have dropped off significantly after an impressive start.

Daniels has truly been the most outstanding player in the country, throwing for 3,812 yards and rushing for 1,314 yards while accounting for 50 total touchdowns. His three losses made oddsmakers skeptical, but now that Nix picked up a second loss, oddsmakers know which player is more deserving.
