The NFL did the right thing in Week 11 by moving the slate’s best game to the most coveted time slot. Instead of seeing the AFC North slugfest between the Bengals and Steelers on Sunday Night Football, we get Round two of the Chiefs (7-2, 3-1 away) versus the Chargers (5-4, 2-2 home).
KC took the first game of the season series back in Week 2, although LA controlled the play and the scoreboard for a good portion of the game.
Bettors quickly saw value on Justin Herbert and company in the Chiefs vs Chargers public betting splits, which the spread moving from KC -6.5 to -5.5.
Our Chiefs vs Chargers same-game parlay is also bullish on LA in this spot, and on Herbert in particular.

SGP Pick #1: LA Chargers +6.5
We’re gonna opt to take the Chargers at +6.5 with slightly higher juice, as 5.5 is typically a dead number. LA has covered in both of their contests as underdogs this season per the Chiefs vs Chargers picks, including back in Week 2 at Kansas City.
AFC West standings through Week 10:
1) Chiefs: 7-2
2) Chargers: 5-4
3) Broncos: 3-6
4) Raiders: 2-7— Matt McMullen (@KCChiefs_Matt) November 14, 2022
LA was only getting 3.5 points in that matchup on the road, which makes Sunday’s point spread simply too high. Yes, the Chiefs have won 13 straight road divisional games with Patrick Mahomes under center, but he boasts just a 28-31-1 career ATS mark when favored by 3.5 points or more.
Herbert meanwhile, is 4-1 against the spread in his career against the Chiefs and 2-3 straight up. The three losses were by 3, 3 and 6 points, with the latter outcome decided in overtime.
SGP Pick #2: Justin Herbert 2+ TD Passes
There’s no need to go too deep into the analysis on this one. The Chiefs have played nine different quarterbacks this season, and only one, Malik Willis, has failed to throw at least two touchdown passes. Willis threw the ball just 16 times in that matchup, completing only five passes.
Herbert meanwhile, has at least 2 TD passes in four of five career meetings against KC, throwing three or more three separate times.
SGP Pick #3: Justin Herbert Over 254.5 Passing Yards
Herbert has failed to clear 254.5 passing yards in back-to-back outings, but that’s largely due to the absence of his top-two receivers. Mike Williams and Keenan Allen have missed two and eight games respectively, but there’s a good chance both of them will be on the field on SNF per the Chiefs vs Chargers injury report.
Williams has already been given the green light, and Herbert has passed for at least 279 yards in five of the seven games Big Mike has played this season.
Justin Herbert Career Stats vs Chiefs
Date | ATT-CMP | YDS | TD |
---|---|---|---|
09/15/2022 | 33-48 | 334 | 3 |
12/16/2021 | 22-38 | 236 | 2 |
09/26/2021 | 26-38 | 281 | 4 |
01/03/2021 | 22-31 | 302 | 3 |
09/20/2020 | 22-33 | 311 | 1 |
Herbert has exceeded 280 passing yards in four of five career starts against KC, while the Chiefs defense ranks 22nd against the pass this season per DVOA. Fire up overs on Herbert in the Chiefs vs Chargers player props.
SGP Pick #4: Patrick Mahomes Over 249.5 Passing Yards
As for Mahomes, he’s been the NFL’s first half MVP so far. He leads the league in passing yards and TD, throwing for over 1,500 yards in his last four games alone.
Mahomes has passed for at least 249 yards in all but one game this season, and averages 298 passing yards over his career in primetime tilts.
Patrick Mahomes on Justin Herbert:
“He throws some passes that I don’t think anyone can throw in this league and that includes myself.”
Herbert responds:
“I appreciate the kind words … he’s being humble there. But there’s not a throw that he can’t make.”

LA does rank 12th against the pass per DVOA, but that’s largely due to the underwhelming cast of QB’s they’ve faced. Outside of Mahomes, they’ve squared off against only one other top-14 quarterback. That was Geno Smith, who torched them for a 74% completion rate and a 104.0 passer rating.
