Chiefs vs Chargers Recent History

Sunday night’s matchup marks the second and final regular-season meeting between these divisional rivals. The Chiefs eked out a narrow 27-24 win when they hosted the Chargers on Thursday Night Football back in Week 2.

Overall, the Chiefs have racked up a 5-2 SU record in their past seven dates with LA, and are also unbeaten in eight road dates with the Chargers, while covering seven times over that stretch.

The OVER and UNDER have taken turns paying out over the past eight meetings between these squads, a trend that extends to their past four clashes in Los Angeles.

Kansas City Chiefs Betting Outlook

Patrick Mahomes turned in another dominating performance in last week’s win over the Jags, tossing for four TDs, and has now connected for multiple scores in seven of nine outings this season.

The Chiefs’ star quarterback also enjoyed a productive evening when the Chargers visited KC in Week 2, tossing for two scores, and has also found the end zone five times in his past two visits to Los Angeles.

Mahomes has also steadily produced when playing under the lights, with 10 of his 25 TD passes this season coming in primetime. He has also thrown for at least three scores in each of his past four road games played in primetime.

However, injuries could emerge as a problem on Sunday. Receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster will miss Sunday night’s contest with a concussion. Marquez Valdes-Scantling also missed time at practice due to an illness, and rushers Jerick McKinnon and Isiah Pacheco have both been hampered by injury this week, but look good to go for the weekend.

Los Angeles Chargers Betting Outlook

Injuries continued to stymie the Chargers in last weekend’s loss to the 49ers. With both Keenan Allen and Mike Williams on the shelf with injuries, quarterback Justin Herbert enjoyed limited downfield options, and it showed.

After leading the Chargers to the end zone on the opening drive of the game, Herbert struggled to spark the offense. That was particularly true after recess, with the Chargers generating just 57 total yards and crossing midfield just once.

And after once again being limited at practice this week, any return by Allen and Williams is far from certain. Considering that both receiver DeAndre Carter and tight end Gerald Everett also missed time at practice, it could be another busy evening for rusher Austin Ekeler, who has run for six scores and added four TD catches this season.

However, just like last weekend, the Chargers will face a stout Chiefs rush defense that has allowed just four total scoring runs over their past eight outings.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Los Angeles Chargers Prediction

While the injuries impacting the Chiefs’ receiving corps are a concern, Mahomes still has a multiple of weapons at his disposal, both in the air and on the ground.

As for the Chargers, while they sport a 5-4 record, it is important to note they have yet to beat a team that currently has a winning record. And with health concerns still hanging over Allen and Williams, it could be another long night for the Chargers.

The Pick: Chiefs -5 (-110) – 1 unit; UNDER 52 (-110)

2022 NFL Season Picks Record: 2-6; -4.2 units
