With Mauricio Pochettino demanding a big performance right out of the gate, the United States will undoubtedly run their attacking sequences through Christian Pulisic and I want to be on the right side of his positioning in this matchup.

Paraguay has shown severe vulnerabilities when forced to defend out in space. This is the exact area where Pulisic’s direct running and technical ability thrive.

If Weston McKennie and the American midfield can successfully dictate the physical tempo, they will pull Paraguay’s deep block out of shape. Pulisic will be the primary beneficiary. In a game that the USA is likely to control the possession and generate frequent scoring opportunities, their star striker will benefit.

With Davies unlikely to play, Canada still needs a wide attacker capable of turning possession into genuine penalty-area pressure. Tajon Buchanan is the best player to pivot to because his pace, direct dribbling, and willingness to arrive at the back post give Canada a clear scoring outlet against a compact Bosnia and Herzegovina shape.

Jesse Marsch’s structural approach heavily incorporates wide overloads to stretch stubborn defenses. Bosnia’s veteran defensive anchor Sead Kolasinac will attempt to clog the penalty area and deny central runners, which makes Buchanan’s ability to attack from the flank even more valuable.
