The supplemental draft is usually an afterthought, but Brendan Sorsby has made this year’s version worth watching. The former Texas Tech quarterback chose it over a court fight with the NCAA, and that opened up a market on where he ends up.
Kalshi already has his next team priced, and the early money tells you a lot about how the league sees him. The quarterback-needy teams grab the headlines, but I think the sharper play is somewhere else.

Brendan Sorsby Next Team Odds
Jacksonville leads the board at 51 cents, which works out to about -104 in traditional terms. Detroit sits right behind at 46 cents (+117), and those two have separated from the pack over the last few weeks. Pittsburgh has faded after trading as high as 30% back in late May.
The Jets are the interesting case. They carry the most volume of any team in this market, with Yes at 28 cents and No at 73. Bettors keep backing New York even though it sits third in the actual NFL Draft odds, and total volume has reached $53,038.
Odds as of today at Kalshi. New customers can claim the Kalshi promo code before betting any NFL futures. Every market settles No if Sorsby doesn’t sign before Sept. 15.
Top Landing Spots for Sorsby in the Supplemental Draft
To find the right team, you have to flip the way you’d normally read a quarterback market. The clubs that need a QB the most are the least likely to win this one.
Start with the teams that won’t. The Browns, Jets, and Cardinals all want their 2027 capital aimed at a loaded quarterback class. Arizona already spent on Carson Beck, and New York has its Geno Smith bridge, so neither is burning a premium future pick in July on a player they’ve barely scouted.
The teams that fit are good ones that already have their quarterback. They can stash Sorsby for a year and flip him as a trade chip if he shows out in camp, the way contenders quietly turn backups into draft capital. The market has settled on Jacksonville and Detroit, while the Eagles sit cheaper than they should.
The talent might be worth the headache. PFF graded Sorsby eighth overall in the 2027 class, and one former NFL scout compared his game to a hybrid of Bo Nix and Derek Carr.
He’s got a live arm and real movement. His second year at Cincinnati brought 27 touchdowns to 5 picks plus 580 rushing yards, though the dip in accuracy to 61.5% and a 12-13 record are the knocks.
The gambling file is what caps him. He wagered more than $90,000 and placed over 9,000 bets, at least 40 on his own team, some while he was underage. He entered a treatment program since, but no league guards betting harder than the NFL, so owners and the league office will weigh in here.
Sorsby Best Bet: Detroit Lions
- Detroit Lions YES (46ยข at Kalshi)
My best bet is Detroit at 46 cents, or +117. Goff is signed through 2028, but the room behind him is bare, with a 33-year-old Teddy Bridgewater as the stopgap and Luke Altmyer as more of a lottery ticket than a succession plan. Sorsby would walk in as the most talented developmental arm on the roster, and he wouldn’t have to play a snap.
Detroit is too good to draft a blue-chip QB high, but they still need a long-term answer behind Goff, and the supplemental draft is a cheap way to get one. Sorsby’s arm and mobility fit a timing and play-action offense built around distributing the ball, which is why he tracked as a top prospect before the gambling mess.
Culture matters just as much. A demanding but stable program under Dan Campbell is a far better landing spot for a player coming out of a gambling rehab program than some chaos franchise. Add in a 2027 mid-rounder as the likely cost, and at +117 over Jacksonville’s -104, I’ll take the Lions.
Sorsby Value Bet: Philadelphia Eagles
- Philadelphia Eagles YES (14ยข at Kalshi)
For the longshot, I’m on the Eagles at 14 cents, or +614. Philadelphia is the exact archetype that wins these auctions, a team that loves value and hoards assets better than anyone.
This is the franchise that flipped Kevin Kolb into real draft capital, and Howie Roseman would gladly spend a 2027 mid-rounder to stash a young arm. The noise is all on the Jets and Cardinals, but the structure points at a Super Bowl odds contender like Philly, and that gap is where I want to be.
What Is the NFL Supplemental Draft?
The supplemental draft exists for players who lose their college eligibility after the regular April draft. It barely runs anymore. The league hasn’t held one since 2023, and no player has come off the board since 2019.
Quarterbacks almost never go this route. The last one was Terrelle Pryor, who landed with the Raiders in the third round back in 2011. That history is a big part of why Sorsby stands out here.
The order comes from a weighted lottery based on win totals and playoff status. Teams submit sealed bids by round, the highest bidder wins, and the price is next year’s pick in that same round. So, a third-round bid on Sorsby costs a 2027 third-round pick.
