Now that was a week.

After hitting on just a single bet across the fist two weeks, we were perfect in Week 3, with Gardner Minshew making it a clean sweep before throwing the game-sealing pick to lose to the Dolphins.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Danger lurks on the horizon with the 0-3 Broncos visiting the also-winless 0-3 Jets on Thursday Night. The weather is expected to be a crispy fall-like 65 degrees with just a 1% chance of rain when things kick off at 8:20pm.

Visit our Broncos vs Jets odds page for all your game betting needs. For now, let’s make some hay with the prop bets below.

Sam Will Be Your Man

Sam Darnold might not exactly be the QB you’d lean on for a W, but he can definitely help us win a bet. He has been absolutely brutal this year, and last week was his early masterpiece: two pick-6s in a 36-7 drubbing at the hands of the Colts.

To be fair, the Jets have had a rough slate to start, with the upstart Bills, and two tough defenses in the 49ers and Colts. But trailing has forced Darnold and the Jets to throw more, and the results are two of the three weeks in 2020 with completions over the 20.5 threshold.

Darnold has also recorded 23+ completions in six of his seven previous appearances with the Jets as favorites. As the lowest scoring team in the league at 12.3 points a game, they could very well be trailing again and needing to move the ball through the air. Darnold hasn’t topped 215 yards passing in a game all year, so he’s going to have to nickel-and-dime it down the field.

It will also help that his top target Jamison Crowder should be back in the lineup, and he’s going up against the fourth-worst passing defense in the NFL, a Broncos unit giving up 277.7 yards a game.

The pick: Darnold OVER 21 completions (0.5 units to win 0.4 units)

Go With Gordon

There’s just too small a sample size to reasonably place a wager on youngster Brett Rypien, who will be the Broncos’ third starter in three weeks. He’s also starting on a short week, and coming off a fourth quarter appearance in a loss to Tampa where he was 8-for-9 for 53 yards and a crushing interception in the endzone.

With the kid making his first career start, you have to expect Vic Fangio to rely heavily on the run game. With Phillip Lindsay questionable with a toe injury, we should see a heavy dose of running back Melvin Gordon.

He’s coming off his worst game of the year, carrying just eight times for 26 yards, but that was against a pretty stout Buccaneers run defence, which ranks third in the NFL. In his previous two starts, he had no less than 15 carries and rushed for 70+ yards in each.

The Jets are surrendering 133 yards per game on the ground, which amounts to a bottom-10 unit. For the Broncos to be successful, you’d think they’re going to have to do better than their current 84 rush yards a game.

The pick: Gordon OVER 60.5 yards rushing (1 unit to win 0.89 units)

Who Finds Paydirt?

Sticking with the Broncos running back, Gordon has scored the first touchdown in each of his last four October road appearances. So I don’t blame you for hitting that first score prop at +500. If you’re a little less adventurous, consider that Gordon has scored a touchdown in eight of his last nine road appearances. He’s a worthy wager to find the endzone.

If you’re looking for another Bronco to score, tight end Noah Fant has two of the Broncos’ five TDs on the season. He was shut out last week against the Buccaneers, but he’s gotten no less than six targets in each of his three games, including 10 against the Bucs last time out.

Looking for a long shot? The Jets are hoping that La’Mical Perine can provide something more to complement Frank Gore, especially with Le’Veon Bell still out with a hamstring injury. The starting position is poised for the taking, and a breakout performance in primetime might just be what he needs. Getting a score at any point in the game does provide great value.

The pick: Fant to score a TD (1 unit to win 1.9 units)
