Week 1 of the NFL season features one of the best rivalries in the sport as the Detroit Lions (15-2 in 2024) head to Green Bay to face the Packers Packers (11-6 in 2024) at 4:25 PM ET on Sunday, September 7th, on America’s Game of the Week on FOX.

I’ve made my betting pick as well as some in-game predictions to target. First, the updated Lions vs Packers odds, which moved significantly after Green Bay traded for Micah Parsons.

Lions vs Packers Betting Lines

Sunday’s NFL point spreads have the Packers as 2.5-point home favorites with the total at 47.5. If you wish to bet the over, take 47.5 (-110) at Caesars. For the under, take under 47.5 (-104) at FanDuel.

Packers ATS bettors can get Green Bay -2.0 (-110) at Caesars, while the best Packer moneyline is -126 at FanDuel. For Lions bettors, take +2.5 (-120) at FanDuel (-120) or their +110 moneyline at BetMGM.

The NFL public betting percentages heavily favor the Lions in the hours before kickoff. Detroit is getting 80% of moneyline handle (on just 44% of the bets) and a stunning 96% of ATS handle (on 94% of the bets).

DET Lions vs GB Packers Pick

• Lions +2.5 (-120) at FanDuel

While the Lions are losing both of their coordinators from their historic 2024 season, they are retaining most of the players from the 15-2 season. If anything, they are more talented defensively with the return of Aidan Hutchinson and the arrival of D.J. Reed.

The Packers have plenty of talent in their own right, but they were swept in the series in 2024. The Lions have won six of the last seven games against Green Bay, including the last three in Wisconsin.

The Lions have the talent advantage on both sides of the ball, and they have the likely quarterback advantage with Jared Goff over Jordan Love. With this in mind, take the Lions getting points on the road to win their third straight game over the Packers.

Jameson Williams Shows Out

Williams and the Lions agreed to an extension just hours before the season began, keeping Williams in Detroit for the foreseeable future.

Last season, Williams cracked 1,000 yards for the first time in his career. All told, he had 1,062 scrimmage yards and eight total touchdowns. Williams has been a spectacular deep threat thus far in his NFL career. Of his 15 career touchdowns, nine of them were at least 40 yards including a 61-yard touchdown in Detroit’s playoff loss. Watch for Williams to break off a big play against the Packers’ defense.

Aidan Hutchinson Comes Back Strong

Hutchinson was making an intriguing Defensive Player of the Year case before going down with a Week 6 injury last season. He was on pace for a truly ridiculous 25.5-sack season and would have set the PFF record for pressures in a season. However, he ended up missing the final 12 weeks of the season and Detroit’s playoff game.

In four career games against Green Bay, Hutchinson has 3.5 sacks and four tackles for loss. In those games, the Lions are 3-1. Look for Hutchinson’s matchups with Green Bay’s right tackle Zach Tom.

Micah Parsons Pops

Parsons racked up 52.5 sacks in four seasons in Dallas before an offseason trade sent him to Green Bay. He is a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro. He has received Defensive Player of the Year votes in all four of his seasons.

In two games against the Lions, Parsons has 2.0 sacks and two tackles for loss. He led the Cowboys to a pair of wins in those games. Parsons won’t play every snap as he is recovering from a back injury/ramping up for the season, but the snaps he does play will be must-watch.

Packers vs Lions 2024 Matchups

Detroit swept the 2024 season series en route to winning the NFC North. In the first matchup, Kerby Joseph starred as he had a pick-six in a routine Lions victory. The second matchup was closer as the Lions needed a last-second field goal to secure the win. Recently departed wide receiver Tim Patrick caught two touchdowns in the second half for Detroit.
