Dysfunctional Jets See Super Bowl 54 Odds Improve from +7400 to +6300
- The New York Jets hired a new head coach and fired their general manager this off-season
- They signed RB Le’Veon Bell and made several other roster moves to shake up the team after another losing season
- Despite the Jets’ improvements, the best teams in the AFC play out West
The New York Jets have a new-look roster and new-look jerseys. But their offseason has been characterized by dysfunction, which led to their Super Bowl odds slipping.
Recently, however, the Jets’ odds to win Super Bowl 54 have recovered somewhat. Is that increase justified?
Super Bowl 54 Odds
Team | Odds |
---|---|
New England Patriots | +700 |
Kansas City Chiefs | +800 |
Cleveland Browns | +1400 |
Los Angeles Chargers | +1400 |
Indianapolis Colts | +1600 |
Pittsburgh Steelers | +2000 |
Baltimore Ravens | +3300 |
Houston Texans | +3300 |
Jacksonville Jaguars | +3300 |
Tennessee Titans | +6000 |
Denver Broncos | +6000 |
Oakland Raiders | +6000 |
New York Jets | +8000 |
Buffalo Bills | +10000 |
Miami Dolphins | +12500 |
Cincinnati Bengals | +12500 |
*odds taken 6/21.
Looking at the Super Bowl odds for all the AFC teams, the Jets are still on the lower end, but they are getting some respect. They’re listed at +8000 which is a great price if you do believe they can contend. For my money, however, I’m looking to the West Coast for my Super Bowl pick.
From the PFF NFL Podcast, @PFF_Steve and @PFF_Sam discuss Le'Veon Bell and how well he fits into the New York Jets offense:

Chargers Offering Maximum Value
The battle between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC West last year was awesome. While the New England Patriots went on the represent the AFC in the Super Bowl, I believe the Chiefs and Chargers had the best rosters. This season, Kansas City has been depleted with trades, suspensions and players being released, which paves the way for Philip Rivers and company.

Both the Chiefs and Chargers were 12-4 last year and while I think Kansas City will take a step back, I think the Chargers improve. Despite the buzz around teams like the Jets and Cleveland Browns, I think it’s an old reliable that will win the conference and ultimately the Super Bowl.
Rivers had over 4,300 yards passing and 32 TD, Melvin Gordon has over 1,400 combined yards and Joey Bosa leads a stout defense. I expect them to have home field advantage in the playoffs and fully expect them to take advantage.
Could Patriots Win Again?
Eventually the Patriots run has to end and it certainly seems like this could be the year. Tom Brady is another year older and his favorite weapon Rob Gronkowski is now retired. They always re-tool and have the advantage of playing in the weak AFC East, but even if they make the playoffs I think they’ll be lacking the weapons necessary to deal with teams like the Chargers, Chiefs and even Colts, never mind whichever team comes out of the NFC.
Looks like Tom Brady had a throwing session with Josh Gordon recently. That’s very interesting. pic.twitter.com/kMjuYAWaE1

Final Verdict
The Jets are an entertaining story with a new head coach, Sam Darnold in year 2 and the addition of Le’Veon Bell. Entertaining stories don’t make for profitable bets though, so fade New York and get your action in on the Chargers while the price is offering maximum value.
PICK: Los Angeles Chargers (+1400)
