  • The NFL has suspended four players for violating the league’s gambling policy today
  • Two players from the Indianapolis Colts and one from the Tennessee Titans have been suspended

The NFL disciplinary committee was at it again on Thursday, as four players have been suspended for violating the NFL’s gambling policy.

The league’s gambling policy prohibits players, staff and league employees from betting on NFL games, as well as from betting on non-NFL games while present in team or league facilities. A player can bet on non-NFL games if they are away from team facilities.

Rodgers and Berry Suspended for 2023 Season

The players include CB Isaiah Rodgers and DE Rashod Berry from the Indianapolis Colts who were both suspended indefinitely through the entirety of the 2023 season. At which point they can apply for reinstatement for the following season. This is because they were found to have bet on NFL games during the 2022 season.

Following the NFL’s announcement of the suspensions, the Colts chose to waive both Rodgers and Berry.

Titans Petit-Frere to Miss 6 Games

The Tennessee Titans were only handed a single suspension and a lesser one.

Offensive Tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere was handed only a six-game suspension. This is because he was found to have bet on sports last season, but not on NFL games. However, he did so while inside a team facility.

Free Agent Taylor Also Suspended

Free agent DE Demetrius Taylor who played one game with the Detroit Lions last season was also suspended indefinitely through 2023 for betting on games in 2022.

Earlier NFL Gambling Suspensions

Earlier this NFL offseason in April, the league suspended five players for similar violations to the league’s gambling policy.

Those players included four from the Detroit Lions in wide receivers Jameson Williams, Quintez Cephus and Stanley Berryhill, as well as safety CJ Moore. Cephus and Moore were suspended indefinitely and released, while Williams and Berryhill only have six-game suspensions.

The Washington Commanders suffered just one suspension back in April with defensive end Shaka Toney, but he was suspended indefinitely.

Perhaps the most high-profile suspension came when ex-Atlanta Falcons receiver Calvin Ridley was suspended all of last season for betting on NFL games in 2021. Ridley is now a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Colts and Titans Odds

For the Colts, Berry was listed deep down the depth chart and hasn’t played in a game since the 2021 season. Rodgers has played three seasons with the Colts, including in 15 games last season where he recorded 34 tackles.

The Colts were already big longshots in the NFL division odds to win the AFC South and are still that way now at odds of +550 behind the Titans (+425) and Jaguars (-165) at DraftKings. The Colts were +500 odds in the division earlier in June.

Petit-Frere’s suspension also won’t affect the Titans’ division odds or chances too much. He was a third round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and didn’t play last season. The Titans had AFC South odds of +400 earlier in June.
