The Dolphins are expected to have Tua Tagovailoa in the lineup when they visit the Chargers on Sunday Night Football in NFL week 14 action. Read on for an analysis of the Miami Dolphins vs Los Angeles Chargers.

An injury forced Tagovailoa out of last weekend’s 33-17 loss in San Francisco last weekend that put the brakes on a five-game win streak. The Chargers are coming off a 27-20 loss in Las Vegas, and are also winless I n their past two home contests.

Dolphins vs Chargers Recent History

Sunday night’s matchup marks the first meeting between these teams since 2020 and the Chargers’ first home date with Miami since 2017. The Dolphins romped to a 29-21 win when they hosted LA two years ago, and have now claimed the win in five of seven clashes since 2011. Dates involving these squads have tended towards low scoring, with the total topping 50 just once in 17 meetings since 1993. Accordingly, the UNDER has gone 15-2 over that stretch.

This marks the fifth time the Chargers have appeared in primetime this season, going 1-3 over their first four outings and 0-3 over their past three SNF appearances. The Dolphins have split a pair of primetime appearances this season, and have averaged just 17 points per game over their past three under the lights.

Miami Dolphins Betting Outlook

Dolphins faithful breathed a sigh of relief after Tua Tagovailoa escaped major injury in last weekend’s loss to the Niners. The Miami pivot’s ankle injury adds to the growing list of health woes that have plagued him this season. Tua managed to connect on a pair of scoring passes before leaving the contest and has now racked up 12 touchdowns over the past five games. However, he also tossed his first two picks in seven games.

Tagovailoa is looking likely to have top receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle available on Sunday night. Hill and Waddle missed time at practice this week due to illness and a leg injury, respectively. The duo has racked up a combined 2350 receiving yards and 11 scores to date, with five of Waddle’s six scoring catches to date coming on the road.

In addition, it is looking increasingly likely that Tagovailoa’s offensive line will be bolstered by the return of offensive tackle Terron Armstead. The three-time Pro Bowl lineman missed last weekend’s date with the 49ers due to a pectoral injury and is officially listed as questionable after being limited at practice this week. But with the team not calling up any offensive linemen from their practice squad, it is looking that Armstead will be ready to go.

Los Angeles Chargers Betting Outlook

The Chargers also look to be getting past the injuries that plagued them earlier this season, particularly among their receiving corps. Sidelined since the team’s 30-27 loss to Kansas City on Sunday Night Football, receiver Mike Williams looks poised to return, providing quarterback Justin Herbert with the rare benefit of a fully healthy downfield contingent.

Injuries to Williams, Keenan Allen, and DeAndre Carter have presented a challenge for Herbert, who has been limited to one or fewer scoring passes in six of 12 outings this season.

Herbert has also received diminished support from his offensive line, which allowed him to get sacked five times last weekend and 14 times over the past three weeks. Those concerns are not helped by the uncertain status of offensive tackle Trey Pipkins, who is doubtful with a knee injury.

Dolphins vs Chargers Prediction

The return of Mike Williams leaves Justin Herbert and the Chargers poised to rebound from some of the shaky offensive performances during their current 2-4 run. The question is just how healthy Tua is, and can the Chargers’ defense tighten things up after surrendering 27 points per game over their past three outings. The Chargers have yet to beat a team this season that currently sports a winning record, but have the weapons to engage in a shootout on Sunday.

The Picks: Chargers +3 (+100) – 1 unit; OVER 53.5 – 1 unit

2022 NFL Season Picks Record: 3-9; -4.3 units
