  • Carolina WR DJ Chark, questionable with a hamstring injury, is the only starter carrying an injury designation for the Monday, September 18 NFL game between the Panthers and New Orleans Saints
  • New Orleans RB Alvin Kamara will be missing the game under NFL suspension
  • All of the Saints vs Panthers injury reports and inactives are listed in the following story

You can tell it’s still early in the NFL season when you take a gander at the Saints vs Panthers injury report for Monday’s game. These two NFC South rivals are showing a solitary starter with an injury designation.

That would be Carolina WR DJ Chark. He’s showing on the injury report as questionable with a hamstring injury. However, the Panthers will also be without CB Jaycee Horn. He was placed on IR earlier this week.

The Saints are also missing a key player, though not through injury. Running back Alvin Kamara is serving an NFL suspension and won’t be playing.

In the Saints vs Panthers odds, New Orleans is set as 3-point road favorites over Carolina. So far in the NFL public betting splits, the Saints are getting the vast majority of ATS handle (58% as 3-point road favorites) as well as most of the moneyline action (95% as -162 road favorites).

Saints Kamara to Sit Two More Games

Kamara was issued a three-game sit-down by the NFL for his part in a brawl at a Las Vegas nightclub during Pro Bowl weekend. He is eligible to return to game action on September 25. One of the best all-purpose backs in the NFL, Kamara has gone over 1,300 yards from scrimmage in each of his six seasons.

Adding more of an issue to his absence is the fact that RB Kendre Miller, next up on the New Orleans depth chart behind current starter Jamaal Williams, is questionable due to a hamstring ailment.

New Orleans Saints Injury Report

Player-Position Injury Game Status
Alvin Kamara-RB Suspension Out
Kendre Miller-RB Hamstring Questionable
Tre’Quan Smith-WR groin Out (IR)
JT Gray-SS shoulder Questionable
Jake Haener-QB suspension Out

Wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith, who started six games last season, is on IR due to a groin issue. Backup strong safety JT Gray is questionable with a shoulder injury. TE Juwan Johnson (calf) returned to full practice status late in the week and is no longer listed on the New Orleans injury report.

Horn Struggles to Stay Healthy In Panthers Secondary

Horn (hamstring) was injured in the season-opening loss to Atlanta and didn’t return. Along with 53 tackles, he also had three interceptions last season and seven passes defended.

The eighth player chosen in the 2021 NFL Draft, Horn has already missed 18 of 34 games during his career through injury.

Carolina Panthers Injury Report

Player-Position Injury Game Status
Jaycee Horn-CB Hamstring Out (IR)
DJ Chark-WR Hamstring Questionable
Austin Corbett-G Knee Out (PUP)
Brady Christensen-G biceps Out (IR)

RT Taylor Moton, who’s been nursing a biceps ailment, was a full participant in practice on Saturday and had his injury designation removed in the Saints vs Panthers injury reports.

How Could Injuries Affect Saints vs Panthers Betting Lines?

Miller is trending toward making his NFL debut on Monday and that will offer some relief to Williams. In the Saints opener against the Tennessee Titans, Williams was in for 43 snap counts. Backup RBs Tony Jones and Kirk Merritt combined to play just nine snaps.

Gray was limited in practice this week, wearing a red non-contact jersey when he did participate. If he is restricted in game participation, rookie Jordan Howden steps up as the top reserve at SS behind Marcus Maye.

Minus Horn, CJ Henderson will be the starting RCB for the Panthers, with Troy Hill also expected to see added duties in the secondary. It might be a good week to look at New Orleans WR Chris Olave and Michael Thomas in the Saints vs Panthers player props.

A full participant in practice on Saturday, Panthers head coach Frank Reich is indicating that Chark will be playing on Monday. However, it’s expected that Chark will be on a pitch count. He caught two passes for 18 yards the opener against Atlanta.
