After Week 1 wins, there’s still a lot of questions surrounding the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys to consider when making your Jets vs Cowboys picks.

For the Jets, it’s life without Aaron Rodgers — a cruel twist in what was supposed to be a dream season.

Dallas, meanwhile, never had to unveil its revamped offensive philosophy in a blowout of the Giants.

How those units combat legitimately excellent defenses will likely be the difference when the two teams clash on Sunday (Sept 17) at 4:25pm ET from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Wilson Tasked to Lead Jets

Rodgers had pressure to lead New York to the promised land, but that’s nothing compared to the pressure on Wilson now to make sure this season doesn’t go off the rails. Especially after the good vibes from Xavier Gipson 65-yard punt return walk-off TD in a 22-16 OT win over the Bills.

After Rodgers’ season-ending Achilles tear just four snaps into his Jets career, Gang Green’s offense went super one-dimensional and vanilla. The plan seemed to be to protect Wilson — the no. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft — into making any glaring errors.

He finished the game 14-for-21 for 140 yards with a TD and interception. If that isn’t pedestrian enough, he had an average depth of target of 4.2 yards, leaving the Jets to run the ball 28 times — close to 53% of their offensive snaps.

That being said, Wilson has a nasty defense to lean on, one that made life miserable for Josh Allen and the high-powered Bills’ offense. Allen was limited to 236 yards passing, while throwing three picks and also fumbling once. He was sacked five times.

Cowboys Not Tested vs Giants

There’s never anything wrong with a 40-0 blowout win, as the Cowboys laid on their division rival to kick off the year. However, after offensive coordinator Kellen Moore was let go and replaced by Brian Schottenheimer, with head coach Mike McCarthy assuming the play-calling duties, we still don’t know how those changes will look.

Dallas scored on a blocked punt and pick-six in the first quarter. That helped stake Dallas to a 16-0 first quarter lead, stretched to 26-0 by halftime.

Their offensive philosophy was more about burning clock than anything else after that.

Dak Prescott threw just 24 passes for 143 yards, with no TD’s or INT’s and sat the entire fourth quarter, while Tony Pollard rushed for 70 yards and a pair of scores.

Like the Jets, Dallas’ defense shined bright, sacking Daniel Jones seven times, part of a 12 hits on the QB, intercepting him twice and forcing a pair of fumbles. Jones was held to a paltry 104 yards passing.

Jets vs Cowboys Injury Report

Rodgers’ injury is the biggie, but four other Jets regulars are listed as questionable, including starting tackles Duane Brown and Mekhi Becton. However, that was the same as Week 1, and both played all 54 offensive snaps.

Breece Hall (knee), coming off an ACL tear in his rookie year, ran for 127 yards in Week 1 and is expected to play. Kicker Greg Zuerlein is nursing a sore groin.

For the Cowboys, star guard Zach Martin (groin) and receiver Brandin Cooks (knee) are both questionable, while tackle Tyler Smith (hamstring) and Donovan Wilson (calf) are listed as doubtful.

Jets vs Cowboys Prediction

With Dak Prescott under center, the Cowboys have feasted as heavy favorites, going 15-8 against the spread of a TD or more. At nine points or higher, that number improves to 7-3 ATS.

I think we’re in for a slugfest, with the Jets ensuring Wilson doesn’t deep-six their hopes. On the other side, I think we see McCarthy showing off the (yawn) low-scoring, run-heavy approach he apparently loves, while leaving his defense  to win it.

Jets vs Cowboys Picks: UNDER 38.5 points (-105)
