The LA Chargers are in playoff position in the AFC, and can help themselves if they can handle a beat up New York Giants squad in Week 14.
Even at 4-8 the G-Men are technically still alive if they were to go on an unlikely run to end the year.
Combine that with LA’s personal battles with consistency and a sudden COVID-19 outbreak, and it’s a difficult pick when these teams meet Sunday.
Kickoff goes at 4:05pm ET from SoFi Stadium, and the home side is a hefty 9.5-point favorite in this one.

The betting public doesn’t seem convinced the 7-5 Bolts have turned any kind of corner, even after a huge Week 13 win in Cincinnati. A whopping 87% of the bets placed against the spread and on the moneyline are on the Giants.
Weather won’t be an issue in this one, as it’s expected to be around 62 degrees and sunny with some cloudy breaks.
LA Chargers Outlook
Since starting out 4-1, it’s been a mystery to figure out what Chargers team shows up week to week. Last Sunday on the road against the Bengals, they offered a bit of both.

They looked like world beaters to start, jumping all over Cincy and building a 24-0 lead in the second quarter. But a pair of Austin Ekeler fumbles allowed the Bengals to fight their way back, bringing it to 24-22 midway through the third quarter, and driving early in the fourth for a potential leading score.
LA turned the tides when they forced a Joe Mixon fumble and Tevaughn Campbell ran it back for a breathe-easier score. The Chargers never looked back, taking it 41-22.

Justin Herbert threw for 317 yards and three TD’s, two of them to Keenan Allen, while Mike Williams went over 100 yards receiving.
A COVID outbreak and other injuries, however, could stall a second straight win. Receivers Williams and Allen, center Scott Quessenberry and corner Chris Harris Jr are all currently in protocol. The latest reports indicate Allen and Quessenberry are out, with Williams and Harris potentially available Sunday.

Ekeler (ankle) was limited in practice , while corner Asante Samuel Jr. (concussion) is out, as are linebacker Kyle Fakcrell (knee) and safety Alohi Gilman (quadriceps).
New York Giants Outlook
They’ve lost twice as more times than they’ve won, they’re bottom five in the NFL scoring just 17.6 points and churning out 328 yards per game on offense.
New York is coming off a loss where they could only muster three field goals, and they’re down starting QB Daniel Jones again this week. Yet, the Giants have an outside chance at making the postseason, and a win Sunday is a must.

It won’t be easy: joining Jones (neck) on the sidelines are corner Adoree Jackson (quad), guard Wes Martin (COVID) and receiver Kadarius Toney (oblique). In fact, all the Giants receivers are dinged up, with Kenny Golladay (ribs) and Sterling Shepard (quadriceps) both questionable.

Even last week’s starter Mike Glennon was in concussion protocol after leaving the game against Miami last week. While he’s been cleared for Sunday, Jake Fromm was brought in as a backup.
The removal of OC Jason Garrett and adding Freddie Kitchens was supposed to jumpstart the offense, but they’ve stalled in his two games at the helm. New York has totaled 264 yards, one TD and a total of 16 points in losses to the Eagles and Dolphins.
Giants vs Chargers Pick
Perhaps the lone positive for the Giants is their defense has been strong as of late, surrendering just 16.5 points the last two games, and holding teams to a respectful 22.8 points per game all season.
Look for New York to try and take advantage of that porous Chargers’ run defense: they are giving up 141.2 yards per game, which ranks 2nd-worst in the NFL, while surrendering 17 TD’s (30th).
But LA’s top-10 offense puts up better than 26 points a game, and they’ve won the last four head-to-head meetings with the G-Men.
Even factoring in injuries and inconsistency, the Chargers have more tools to be successful –including a healthy Herbert — and should romp.
