At this early stage the bet I like the most is the Texans at +9. That number has already come down from an earlier +10. It’s the first game of the season, and while the Super Bowl champs are hosting, the Chiefs will have no fans (probably) and nobody knows how this will affect teams and games in any sport.

Houston beat KC 31-24 on the road last year and then took a 24-point lead again in KC during the playoffs before blowing that huge lead and losing in the Divisional Round. They’ll want to rectify that with a good showing on opening day.

Money looks to be coming in on the Seahawks with their line juiced to -115. The Hawks won’t have the advantage of the 12th man at The Link, but it will still be Patriots’ QB Jarrett Stidham’s first road game. If he takes any time to adjust to his starter’s role, especially with possibly no pre-season, it could be a big win for Seattle.

It’s not often you can bet Tom Brady as a one-point favorite, but that’s the case in Week 3 as the Bucs travel to Denver. Tampa Bay opens with a tough road game against Drew Brees and the Saints, followed by their home opener against ex-Saint Teddy Bridgewater and the Panthers. It won’t be easy, but the Bucs are substantial eight-point favorites over the Panthers.

On the other hand, Denver hosts the Titans before traveling to Pittsburgh where they are six-point dogs. A Bucs’ win, coupled with a Broncos’ loss in Week 2, could see this number on the Bucs in Week 3 soar.

Let’s look to the Monday nighter in Week 4 for some value as the Falcons are six-point road dogs in Lambeau. The Packers did little (nothing) to improve their offense so far this offseason. They open the year on the road in Minnesota and New Orleans and host another division rival in Detroit in the opening three weeks.

The Falcons’ schedule isn’t much easier playing the Seahawks and Cowboys in the opening two weeks and hosting the Bears in Week 3. Still, a warm-up against Mitchell Trubisky at home could give the Falcons some momentum heading into their Monday night tilt with the Pack.

The Patriots had trouble getting separation from teams last year with Tom Brady. I can’t see that changing much in 2020 with Stidham. Not that the Broncos will be bringing a super-experienced QB to the table either with Drew Lock, but still, there may not be a whole lot between these teams. Bet the Broncos early at +6.

A team that jumped out for me with betting value in Week 6 could be the New York Jets. On the road in Los Angeles to the Chargers, they are currently four-point dogs. But the markets seem to agree with me as the Jets’ line is already juiced to -115. I expect the Jets to be improved with a full season of Sam Darnold, and it’s anyone’s guess how the tandem of Tyrod Taylor and rookie Justin Herbert will look. Furthermore, the Chargers play the Chiefs, Bucs and Saints prior to this one and poor results could see this number come down.

Yes, the Patriots will be coming off a bye, but sitting at two-point home favorites in a likely empty stadium against the Super Bowl finalists, just doesn’t look right. Furthermore, the 49ers look to have a relatively soft schedule to open the year and a few impressive wins could easily see San Fran bet up to favorites by the time this game happens.

In the five games leading up to the Titans vs Bengals game this week, Cincinnati plays the Eagles, Jags, Ravens, Colts and Browns. They may only emerge with one win over the Jaguars. Then they’re listed as one-point underdogs this week against Tennessee. If that’s the case, bettors will be pounding the Titans, and betting minus-one right now will look like a bargain.

The Raiders have one of the toughest first halves of the season with games against the Panthers, Saints, Pats, Bills, Chiefs, Bucs and Browns prior to their Week 9 game with the Chargers. LA, on the other hand, will tune-up for this one with home games against the Jets and Jags, plus a road game in Miami. This line may be much higher come game time. Bet the Chargers now and possibly come back on the Raiders at a better number come Week 9 for a potential middle.

Assuming Ryan Fitzpatrick is still slinging the ball around for the Fins come Week 10, the early value could be on Miami as 1.5-point favorites. The Jets will have just come off a Monday night home affair with the Patriots which could have serious divisional title implications. Now they’ll be playing a short week in Miami against a team which likely has little to lose this season and will be more than happy to get up for their divisional rival.

It’s Thanksgiving week in Week 12 and the Steelers host the Ravens as a pick. Home-field may not be that intimidating this time around if the terrible towels aren’t present without fans. Do we really know how good Big Ben will be in his return from injury. I don’t. He certainly doesn’t look like he’s been keeping in shape during the lockdown and I for one am not certain he makes it through the season. Will he make it to Thanksgiving? Perhaps. Perhaps not. Either way, the Ravens are the class of the division and look to be a good bet.

Two teams that played on Thanksgiving in Week 12 are right back at it on Thursday in Week 13. The Cowboys visit the Ravens as seven-point dogs. Teams often struggle on the other side of Ravens/Steelers games (Week 12), whereas Dallas will have hosted the Redskins and Dwayne Haskins as massive 11-point favorites. Dallas should emerge less battered from that one and be in a position to cover the touchdown spread this week.

Based off strength of schedule, the Colts have the easiest schedule this season, while we’ve already talked about the tough start the Raiders will have earlier. Las Vegas’ Week 14 game is set for Sunday, December 13 at home to the Colts. But could Vegas be looking ahead to a division matchup with the Chargers on Thursday Night Football just four days later? Bet the Colts early as two-point road chalk.

Can this Sunday afternoon game be flexed to Monday night? The Chiefs travel to New Orleans Sunday afteroon in Week 15, whereas we get Steelers at Bengals on Monday night. I know Cincy has Joe Burrow but surely Chiefs/Saints is a highlight game of the week.

The Saints, as mentioned earlier, have a tough middle portion of their schedule. That continues into the later stages though too. Their two home games on November 15 and 23 are tough games vs San Fran and Atlanta. They then travel to Denver, Atlanta and Philly prior to Week 15’s home date with KC. The Chiefs meanwhile play in Miami the week before and could even elect to stay on the east coast to cut down on travel. Chiefs for the slight upset at +1.5.

The Jaguars are expected to be in full tank-mode this season and it’s hard to find too many (if any) wins on their schedule. But let’s just look past their bye week. Away to Green Bay, home to Pittsburgh and Cleveland, away to Minnesota, home to Tennessee and away to Baltimore in Week 15. They then host the Bears this week as 1.5-point favorites. Favorites? I’m not sure they win any of those aforementioned games so it’s hard to see them maintaining the status of favorites by Week 16.

I’d bet Mitchell Trubisky or Nick Foles vs the Jags in this one.

Let’s come right back against the Jags again in the final week of the NFL 2020 regular season. Laying double-digits isn’t always the best option and the Colts are already 10.5-point favorites at home to Jacksonville.

But if Jacksonville does indeed tank this season and the Colts, who have the easiest schedule based on SOS win totals are still in the running for the division title and or playoffs in Week 17, there could be a complete mismatch in efforts for this one. 10.5 may look like a great number come January 3.
