Winners Last Week

The Packers shut out the Seattle Seahawks 17-0 last week at home while the Vikings notched a 27-20 road win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Aaron Rodgers returned for the Packers after missing one game following his positive test for COVID-19 and completed 23 of 37 passes for 292 yards while being intercepted twice. Green Bay recorded its first shutout since 2018.

The Vikings’ Kirk Cousins threw two touchdown passes to tight end Tyler Conklin and Dalvin Cook had 94 yards rushing and one TD.

The Packers have won their last two visits for U.S. Bank Stadium after losing their first three. However, the Vikings won the last meeting between the teams, 28-22 last season in Week 8 in Green Bay as Cook had 226 total yards and four touchdowns.

Packers Offense vs Vikings Defense

Packers running back Aaron Jones (knee) will miss the game after being injured in last week’s game. Thus, the bulk of the ball-carrying load will fall to AJ Dillon.

Dillon, a second-year pro, had two of his four career touchdowns last Sunday while rushing for 66 yards on 21 carries. Dillon has 421 yards this season in 10 games and 16 receptions for 196 yards.

The Vikings could be a good matchup for Dillon as they are 28th in the league in rushing defense. Minnesota has allowed at least 100 yards on the ground in seven of its nine games.

Rodgers has a 15-9-1 career record against the Vikings, including 7-6 in Minnesota.

Vikings Offense vs Packers Defense

Cousins is quietly having a fine season for the Vikings. He leads the NFL with a 0.6 interception percentage and his 104.0 passer rating is sixth in the league.

However, the veteran quarterback could be in for a tough time against the Packers’ surging defense. Green Bay has not allowed a point in its last six quarters, its longest stretch since the Super Bowl-winning 2010 season.

Furthermore, opponents have managed just 34 points and one touchdown pass against the Packers in the last three games despite Pro Bowl cornerback Zaire Alexander being injured. Green Bay also has four interceptions in that span.

The Vikings, though, could win a potential battle of kickers. Greg Joseph is 6 for 6 on field goal attempts over the last three games while the Packers’ Mason Crosby has missed seven of his last 12 FG tries.

Packers vs Vikings Injuries

Guard Wyatt Davis (ankle) has been ruled out for the Vikings and cornerback Bashaud Breeland (groin) is questionable.

In addition to Jones, All-Pro offensive tackle David Bakhtiari (knee) and wide receiver Malik Taylor (abdomen) are out for the Packers. Wide receiver Allen Lazard (shoulder) is doubtful while linebacker Rashan Gary (elbow) and defensive end Kingsley Keke (concussion) are questionable.

Packers vs Vikings Prediction

Dillon should be able to fill the void left by Jones in the Packers’ backfield and Rodgers figures to be better after having a week to knock off the rust. Add in Green Bay’s strong defensive play recently and it all points to a Packers’ victory.

The Pick: Packers -1 (-110)
