Injuries under center could play a huge role this week on Sunday Night Football, as the Miami Dolphins get set to host the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Dolphins ride a three-game losing streak into NFL Week 7, a slide that coincides with the loss of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who is expected to return to action after missing the past three games.

The Steelers hope to have Kenny Pickett back after the rookie pivot was injured in last weekend’s 20-18 upset victory over Tampa Bay.

The Dolphins have made slight gains in the NFL odds, improving to 7-point favorites since opening as 6.5-point chalk. The total has dipped slightly to 44.5 since opening at 45.5.

Start time of Sunday night’s contest is set for 8:20pm ET at Hard Rock Stadium. The game time weather forecast calls for mainly clear skies with temperatures hovering in the high-70s Fahrenheit.

Steelers vs Dolphins Recent History

Sunday night’s matchup marks the first meeting between these teams since 2019, and the Steelers’ first trip to Miami since 2016.

Pittsburgh has held a clear edge in head-to-head action, claiming outright wins in seven of nine dates with the Dolphins since 1998, including victories in three of their past four visits to South Florida.

The Steelers claimed victory by double-digit margins in each of their past two clashes with the Dolphins, with both of those wins coming on home turf.

However, they dropped a lopsided 30-15 decision as 7.5-point chalk in their last road date with Miami after earning wins by a combined margin of just seven points in their two previous visits.

This contest marks just the second time that these teams have met in primetime since 2007. Pittsburgh has topped Miami in five straight meetings under the lights, limiting the Dolphins to just 10.2 points per game over that stretch.

Pittsburgh Steelers Betting Outlook

The Steelers did an outstanding job of containing Tom Brady and the Buccaneers attack in last week’s upset win. The defense limited the Bucs to a pair of field goals in two first-half drives into the red zone, and extended the trend during Tampa’s third red z one drive early in the second half.

The Steelers’ stout defensive performance marks a dramatic turnaround after the team allowed 27 points per game in a preceding four-game losing streak.

But with the secondary plagued by injuries, and the status of cornerbacks Ahkello Witherspoon and James Pierre doubtful, shutting down Tagovailoa represents a massive challenge.

Complicating matters is the uncertain status of Kenny Pickett, who spent time in concussion protocol after being forced out of last week’s win. Pickett is expected to play, but considering the recent concerns raised over the NFL’s handling of concussions, his status must be closely watched.

Miami Dolphins Betting Outlook

The Dolphins are hoping to get past the devastating rash of injuries that has devastated their passing corps in recent weeks. In addition to Tua, the Dolphins have also seen Teddy Bridgewater miss time due to injury. Rookie Skylar Thompson, who was unexpectedly forced to make his NFL debut two weeks ago is also dealing with a thumb injury.

But if, as reported, Tua is good to go, it will be a gamechanger for this team. The 24-year-old looked poised for a long awaited breakthrough after tossing for 469 yards and six touchdowns in a 42.38 win over Baltimore in Week 2.

However, he saw that strong short cut short after coming out on the wrong end of crushing hits in each of the next two games.

With Tua under center, the Dolphins racked up 76 total points through their first 10 quarters of the season, but have mustered just 16 points per game during their current three-game slide.

Steelers vs Dolphins Prediction

Under normal circumstances, it would be tough to overlook the Dolphins as 7-point chalk against this struggling Steelers team. However, how Tua goes, so go the Dolphins. And until there is more evidence that he is back to form, the prudent bet is best placed on another low scoring affair under the lights.
