The playoff hopes of the Oakland Raiders are sinking but the odds of Raiders’ running back Josh Jacobs being the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year continue to soar.

Even though he missed last week’s 42-21 loss to the Tennessee Titans due to a shoulder injury, the betting line on Jacobs only grew stronger. Sportsbooks list Jacobs as the odds-on favorite to be the NFL OROY.

Sportsbook 1 shows Jacobs as their -350 chalk. Sportsbook 2 puts the line on Jacobs at favorite’s odds of -300.

Across the leading sportsbooks, the NFL OROY odds on Jacobs average out at -350. A week ago, his average odds were -290.

Jacobs in Control

In the case of Jacobs, it could be argued that his absence only made his case for NFL OROY grow stronger. Minus their star back, Oakland was limited to 81 yards on the ground against Tennessee.

What’s even more impressive is that Jacobs has been performing since Week 7 with what’s been diagnosed as a fractured shoulder blade. During that time period, he’s gone over 100 yards rushing in four games. That includes a career-high 124 yards against the Green Bay Packers.

For the season, Jacobs is sixth in NFL rushing with 1,061 yards. He’s scored seven touchdowns on the ground and fumbled just once. His yards per game average of 88.4 is fourth in the league and he’s tied for third with eight runs of 20 or more yards.

Murray Fades from OROY Race

The early leader in the NFL OROY race, Kyler Murray appears to have hit a wall. The Arizona Cardinals quarterback has struggled significantly in his last two games.

Four of Murray’s nine interceptions have occurred in the past two weeks. He’s been sacked 15 times in his last three games. No NFL QB has been wrapped up by enemy defenders as frequently this season as the 46 times that Murray’s been sacked.

The Cardinals believe that Murray is to blame for many of those sacks. He’s trying to make something happen when he should be throwing the ball away and regrouping for the next down.

By George, It’s Josh

No one is joshing when Jacobs is touted as NFL OROY favorite. His curve has continued to trend upward all season long. He was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month in November and December.

The last rookie to win in consecutive months was Odell Beckham of the 2014 New York Giants.

Beckham won the NFL OROY that season. As Jacobs will this season.

Pick: Josh Jacobs (-300)
