Super Bowl MVP Odds Update: Christian McCaffrey Rises to Top 3 Favorite
By Robert Duff in NFL Football
- Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson remains the +220 favorite in the Super Bowl MVP odds
- Quarterbacks occupy four of the first five places in this betting market
- The only non-QB among the top-five contenders is San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey
Lamar Jackson won his first NFL playoff game since 2020, while Christian McCaffrey kept on trucking his way into the end zone and both were factors impacting the Super Bowl MVP odds.
Jackson maintained his status as the chalk in this betting market while leading the Baltimore Ravens to a 34-10 NFL Divisional Round victory over the Houston Texans. He’s set at odds of +220 to be Super Bowl MVP.
Jackson is among four QBs occupying spots as top-five contenders to be Super Bowl MVP. Third at a betting line of +350, San Francisco 49ers RB McCaffrey is the lone non-QB to crack the leading contender for the honor.
Let’s take a look at the contenders and a couple of sleepers in the Super Bowl MVP odds.

Jackson Solid Super Bowl MVP Pick
Already the overwhelming favorite in the regular season NFL MVP odds, could Jackson become the eighth player to win both regular season and Super Bowl MVP recognition in the same season?

Jackson, who’s seemingly spent his entire NFL career silencing critics, was at it again in the NFL Divisional Round, throwing for a pair of TDs and running for two more scores. While his passing yardage total (152) was a career postseason low, Jackson’s 72.73% completion rate (16-of-22) and passer rating of 121.8 were playoff bests.
The elusive Jackson also ran the ball nine times for 100 yards. It’s this dual ability to make something happen which will enable Jackson to make such a strong case to be Super Bowl MVP.
Onward Christian Soldiers
McCaffrey scoring a TD in a playoff game is as certain as death and taxes. It’s gonna happen. In five career NFL postseason games, the 49ers RB has found the end zone in every one of them.
Christian McCaffrey has scored 36 touchdowns in 31 games with the 49ers. Pretty, pretty, pretty good

He ran for two TDs as San Francisco beat Green Bay on the weekend. McCaffrey’s betting line in this market shortened from +800 to +350.
However, running backs don’t often win Super Bowl MVP. It’s happened just seven times in the history of the game and not since Denver’s Terrell Davis in Super Bowl 32.
Could Mahomes Enter Elite Company?
If the Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl, will Taylor Swift be named MVP. Based upon the angst her presence at Chiefs games seems to create among males who are fans of other NFL teams, you’d think that was the case.
What no one is talking about is the chance that KC QB Patrick Mahomes has a shot to be a three-time Super Bowl MVP. And you can access +380 odds on him making it happen. Were he to do so, Mahomes would join a list that includes Tom Brady (five), Joe Montana (three) and nobody else.
Lions QB Goff Worth a Look?
The Detroit Lions are playing at San Francisco in the NFC Championship Game. They are a +700 longshot in the Super Bowl odds. Is it even worth looking at Lions QB Jared Goff as Super Bowl MVP?
Well, on the one hand, Detroit has lost 11 road playoff games in a row. The Lions haven’t won a game at San Francisco since 1975. On the other hand, the last time the Lions won an away game in the postseason, it was at San Francisco. That was in 1957, which is also the most recent season in which Detroit won an NFL championship.
If you opt to roll with the latter omen, then you should also be seriously considering betting Goff at +900.
