The first game of the NFL Divisional Playoffs will see the Kansas City Chiefs (15-2, 8-0 home) hosting the Houston Texans (11-7, 5-4 away) at 4:30 pm ET on Saturday, January 18. Kansas City, the two-time defending Super Bowl-champions who are in search of an unprecedented three-peat, are heavy favorites. The public loves Kansas City to win at short odds, but is less sold on the notion of the Chiefs covering a fairly big spread.

Yet, even with Kansas City at a hyper-short price, the Texans vs Chiefs public betting splits show a massive 94% of moneyline handle on KC to win straight-up, leaving just 6% on Houston to pull off the upset.
Back-to-back Super Bowl champions, Kansas City is riding a seven-game overall postseason win streak, winning three games en route to the Lombardi Trophy two years ago and four last season.
The ATS splits are much narrower. Kansas City is getting just 51% of money bet against the spread on 55% of the wagers. The game-total splits are also fairly close. As of 3:05 pm ET on Friday afternoon, 58% of the game-total handle was on under 41.5. Notably, the game total has dropped a full two points since opening at 43.5.
HOU Texans vs KC Chiefs Injury Report
HOU Texans | Injury | Game Status |
---|---|---|
Azeez Al-Shaair (LB) | Knee | Questionable |
Joe Mixon (RB) | Ankle | Questionable |
Robert Woods (WR) | Hip | Questionable |
Teagan Quitoriano (TE) | Calf | Questionable |
KC Chiefs | Injury | Game Status |
Mecole Hardman (WR) | Knee | Doubtful |
Jaylen Watson (CB) | Ankle | Questionable |
The Texans vs Chiefs injury reports are fairly limited for this point of the season, especially on the Kansas City side. Most of the Chiefs starters have effectively had two weeks off. Andy Reid rested the vast majority of his starters in the team’s Week 18 demolition at Denver (38-0) before getting a bye in the Wild Card Round.
The Kansas City injury report lists just two players, both of whom are attempting to come back off IR. Wide receiver Mecole Hardman (90 receiving yards, 62 rushing yards in 12 GP) is doubtful due to the knee injury that’s held him out since November 29. Hardman was limited at practice on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
On defense, cornerback Jaylen Watson (32 tackles, six passes defended in six games) is questionable with an ankle issue. Watson, who has been out since October 20, was a full participant at practice all week.
The Houston injury report is a little lengthier. The biggest question marks are running back Joe Mixon (1,016 rushing yards, 309 receiving yards, 11 TDs) and receiver Robert Woods (203 receiving yards). Woods didn’t practice at all during the week, while Mixon was limited on Wednesday and did not practice on Thursday.
Both are officially listed as questionable. It’s hard to imagine Houston’s bell cow would miss the biggest game of the season, but it’s certainly reasonable to think he’ll be something less than 100%. Mixon is not currently on the board in the NFL player props for the Divisional Round.
Also questionable are starting OLB Azeez Al-Shaair (knee) and reserve tight end Teagan Quitoriano (Calf) who is coming back from IR and hasn’t played all season. Al-Shaair was a DNP at Tuesday’s practice and limited on Wednesday and Thursday.
