Just a few weeks ago, the Philadelphia Eagles crashed the top-5 2023 Super Bowl odds party.

While the Titans, Dolphins and Seahawks are still on the periphery, they’re making noise and climbing up the rankings after impressive Week 8 showings.

On the other end, it’s still early, but after another sluggish loss, it’s hard to see the LA Rams even getting into position to repeat. And those feel-good New York stories took a downturn Sunday.

While the Buffalo Bills again took care of business and sit pretty above all, let’s run down some of the movers and shakers Sunday.

The Viking Quest

The Green Bay Packers’ slow stat might be making all the headlines, and that works just fine for the Minnesota Vikings, who reeled off their fifth straight win in a 34-26 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.

Kirk Cousins threw for two TD’s, ran for another, while Dalvin Cook put up a season-best 111 yards on the ground with a score.

Defensively, the Vikes stalled out three Arizona second-half drives that crossed midfield, not letting any of the drives advance past the 37.

With Green Bay’s loss in Buffalo, every team in the division has at least five losses, all staring up at the 6-1 Vikings. After cracking the top-5 odds last week, Minnesota holds steady but sees their odds shorten from +1600 to +1400.

Betting on Cousins to guide a team to the Super Bowl is sketchy at best, but Minnesota’s roster is looking strong top to bottom, which doesn’t put too much pressure on the QB to do it all.

Fading Rams

Coming off a win and getting a bye week to prepare for their arch nemesis, the LA Rams again got dominated by the San Francisco 49ers, dropping a 31-14 decision.

After putting up a pair of long scoring drives, the Rams’ offense dried up in the second half, while allowing Frisco to pile up three TD drives en route to a lopsided victory. It’s the eighth time in nine games the Niners have beaten the Rams.

Matthew Stafford threw for 187 yards and a score, while adding a rushing TD, but it wasn’t nearly enough, as the Rams were shut out in the second half for the third time at home this season.

Their running game again stalled, as LA rushed 21 total times for 56 yards and a score.

Things could have gone from bad to disastrous, when Cooper Kupp suffered an ankle injury with a minute to play. Kupp himself said that he should be ok, and that he likely dodged a bullet.

LA’s title odds are fading fast, sitting outside the top 10 at +3500 odds. You’d have to be a major believer to see this as a value pick.

Titans Bounce Back

Hands up anyone who thought the Titans were done. Me too.

The Titans have resurrected their season and their title hopes, and that continued Sunday when they got past the Houston Texans 17-10. It’s Tennessee’s fifth win in a row, and they did it without starting QB Ryan Tannehill, who missed the game due to illness.

No matter, as Malik Willis didn’t need to do much but hand the ball to Derrick Henry, who put together the best rushing performance this season. Henry carried 32 times for 219 yards and two touchdowns, carrying his team to victory.

The defense has been key in the turnaround, holding teams to 17 points and under in the last four games, allowing 15.3 points per game over the five game streak.

Starting the week at +4000 odds, the Titans are now a top-13 squad but hold at +4000 odds. The soft schedule has got them back on track, we’re about to get a better idea where they stand when they pay the Chiefs in Week 9.

Dolphins’ Offense Explodes

When healthy, the Miami Dolphins can put up points on anyone. They flexed all that skill in Motown, coming back from 21-6 to win 31-27.

Tyreek Hill had his fourth game of 160+ yards receiving, catching 12 balls for 188 yards, while Jaylen Waddle caught eight balls for 106 yards and two scores.

Tua Tagovailoa passed for 382 yards and three touchdowns, and has guided his team to two straight wins since returning from concussion.

Starting the week with +5000 odds, Miami has shot to 11th-best odds at +3000. Health is a question, but this presents one of the better long shot bets you could make at this point of the season.

Seahawks Stay Tops in NFC West

And what about those supposedly rebuilding Seahawks? Geno Smith might actually be the best new starting QB on that large carousel, leading Seattle to a 27-10 win over the one-loss New York Giants.

Smith threw for 212 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions, and let the defense do the rest.

They harassed Daniel Jones all day, sacking him five times, and limiting him to 176 yards passing and just 20 yards rushing. Saquon Barkley did have a rushing score, but Seattle held the star back to 53 yards on 20 carries.

Seattle is first in the NFC West, a game clear of the 49ers. They can build some momentum before meeting San Fran, with games against Arizona, Tampa, Vegas, the Rams and Carolina — all winnables before taking on the Niners.

They’ve taken a massive jump from +12500 odds to +6000. No rush here, but monitor how these next few weeks go, as even more success will still shorten those odds minimally.
