Rams Big Favorites over Texans

As is becoming the case quite regularly, the Houston Texans are on the wrong end of the week’s largest opening line. They are 14.5-point underdogs at home to the Los Angeles Rams.

The Rams (6-1) are two-touchdown road choices despite struggling to get past the winless Detroit Lions 28-19 on Sunday at home.

Matthew Stafford passed for 334 yards and three touchdowns against his former team and Jalen Ramsey made an end zone interception with five minutes left to preserve the win.

The Rams led 25-19 when Jared Goff – dealt to Detroit for Stafford in the offseason — drove the Lions to the Los Angeles 12 while converting four third downs. Ramsey then came up with the game-changing play on his 27th birthday when he picked off an errant throw by Goff, who was being hit by Aaron Donald.

The Texans (1-6) saw their losing streak reach six games with a 31-5 loss to the unbeaten Arizona Cardinals on the road. Houston scored the game’s first five points but then it was all Cardinals.

Arizona wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins caught a touchdown pass in his first game against his former team since being traded in 2020.

Titans, Colts Spread Razor Thin

The lowest spread is one point, which is what the Indianapolis Colts are favored by at home against the Tennessee Titans.

Going into their game at the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night, the Colts (2-4) had won two of their last three games following a 2-4 starts.

The Titans (5-2) whipped the visiting Chiefs 27-3 earlier Sunday to run their winning streak to three games. Leading the way for the Titans was Ryan Tannehill, who threw for 270 yards and a touchdown and ran for a score.

Tennessee built a 27-0 halftime lead and cruised.

Tennessee held the Chiefs to their lowest point total since 2012 and forced three turnovers, including two by Patrick Mahomes. Denico Autry had two of the Titans’ four sacks.

Highs and lows

Even though the Chiefs were limited to a field goal Sunday, the over/under of 53.5 for their game with the Giants is the highest on the board. That could be attributable as much to the Chiefs’ leaky defense, which is averaging 29.0 points allowed a game, than an offense scoring at a 26.9 clip.

The Giants are scoring 19.9 points a game and giving up 25.7.

The lowest totals are 43.5 for the San Francisco 49ers’ visit to the Chicago Bears and the Jacksonville Jaguars-Seahawks game in Seattle.

Movement on The Line?

The Seahawks have opened as 3.5-point home favorites after both they and the Jaguars had byes this weekend.

Granted, the Seahawks (2-4) are missing quarterback Russell Wilson, who is out with a thumb injury, and going with Geno Smith. Meanwhile, the Jaguars (1-5) are coming off breaking a 20-game-losing streak by beating the Miami Dolphins in London.

Yet it seems likely this spread will grow. Look for the sharps to fade Urban Meyer and the Jaguars on the road.
