Point Still With Best Conn Smythe Odds Despite Injuries

With odds at +150, Brayden Point has been exceptional for the Lightning in this year’s playoffs with 25 points in 16 games. He was a game-time decision for the Lightning, however, prior to last night’s 2-1 overtime victory over the New York Islanders. With the win, the Lightning advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals for the second time since 2015.

Point has seven points in the five and a half periods he managed to get on the ice against New York. Tampa lost games three and five when Point was out. The nature of Points’ injury is still not clear and Lightning Coach Jon Copper said that he would prioritize the player’s health over that of the team’s ability to win.

With slightly longer odds at +200, Victor Hedman offers better value to win the Conn Smythe in addition to the Lightning’s odds to win the Stanley Cup which are -182.

With seven goals this postseason, he has suited up for all 19 Lightning playoff games and has been a beast at both ends of the ice. With a plus-19 rating to go with 3.18 shots per game and 7.12 attempts per game during these playoffs, he has also scored some big goals  including the double-overtime winner to eliminate the Boston Bruins in Round 2.

He is a Norris Trophy nominee for a fourth straight year and has only been on the ice for four goals against in the 330-plus minutes he’s played at even-strength this summer.

Heiskanen and Khudobin Have Top Conn Smythe Odds for the Dallas Stars

Miro Heiskanen (+250) like Hedman has also had an exceptional postseason run with the Dallas Stars. Only 21 years of age, he has drawn comparisons to Paul Coffey in his days with the Edmonton Oilers among others.

He leads NHL defensemen in postseason scoring and is fourth overall with 22 points (five goals, 17 assists) in 21 games this postseason.

He’s leading the Stars with an average ice time of 25:43 per game in the postseason; 21:05 at even strength (also the most on Dallas), 2:25 on the power play (sixth) and 2:13 on the penalty kill (fifth).

Should the Stars win the Stanley Cup and Heiskanen win the Conn Smythe, he would be the youngest player to do so since goalie Patrick Roy did it as a 20-year-old with the Montreal Canadiens in 1986.

“Dobby” Working Harry Potter Like Magic In the Crease for Stars

Anton Khudobin (+300) is perhaps the best story of the 2020 postseason given his exceptional play so far. He almost singlehandedly won the Western Conference Finals for Dallas as he went 4-1 with a .950 SV% and 1.69 GAA to help the Stars advance.

As far back as their series against the Colorado Avalanche, Khudobin carried the Stars when they needed him to do so during a 5-2 win over Colorado in Game 2.

With Nathan MacKinnon and the Avalanche dominating the offensive zone, Khudobin made 19 first-period saves. That allowed Dallas to find it’s footing and have a chance to win that game. They did and went up 2-0 in the series against the Avalanche. When the Stars were leading that series 2-1 Khudobin still had extremely long odds to win the Conn Smythe at +2300. But that number has been drastically cut with the Stars advancing.

Khudobin’s best moment was in Game 4 of the Western Final against the Golden Knights when he made three saves on a crucial 5-on-3 penalty kill late. Dallas pushed Vegas to the brink of elimination despite being outshot 33-20.

Take Hedman to Win Conn Smythe

With his play this postseason, Brayden Point’s injury and questionable status before Game 6 of the East Final, Victor Hedman offers the best value as your winner for the Conn Smythe Trophy at +200. Hedman has played every game this postseason and is full value for those odds. He could end up with the Cup, a Norris Trophy, and the Conn Smythe.

The Pick: Victor Hedman Tampa Bay Lightning – Conn Smythe  (+200)
