Few teams in the Eastern Conference have opened the season better than the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes. Just one point separates them in the early Eastern Conference standings heading into Tuesday’s meeting in Raleigh.
Boston has made the most of its chances so far, scoring at a high clip on modest shot totals. Carolina plays a different game, piling up shots at one end and choking them off at the other, and it bounced back with a win on Oct. 24 after an Oct. 22 loss.
Puck drop is 8:00 PM ET on ESPN. My Bruins vs Hurricanes prediction weighs those contrasting styles, the expected goalies, and the available betting lines.
Bruins vs Hurricanes Prediction
- Hurricanes moneyline (63¢ / -170 on Kalshi)
My Bruins vs Hurricanes prediction is Carolina to win, and I’m taking a position on the Canes at this price. A 63¢ contract implies a 63% chance before fees, while BetMGM’s roughly -170 moneyline implies about 65% for the same outcome.
This pick starts with where the puck lives. Carolina averages 33.92 shots per game in all situations and allows just 22.38, an edge of more than 11 shots per game. Boston sits on the wrong side of that line, generating 26.25 shots and surrendering 27.83.
Shot volume alone doesn’t decide games, and the Bruins prove it. Boston averages 4.00 goals per game, a hair above Carolina’s 3.92, on nearly eight fewer shots per night. That works out to roughly 15% of its shots finding the net, compared to about 12% for the Hurricanes.
I don’t expect Boston’s finishing touch to vanish. But it gets tougher to lean on that rate against a team allowing 22.38 shots a night, especially when the Bruins already give up more chances than they create.
Back in front of the Raleigh crowd, I trust Carolina to tilt the ice and make Boston’s shooters work for every look. That’s why I picked the Bruins vs Hurricanes.
Bruins vs Hurricanes Betting Lines
The Bruins vs . Hurricanes betting lines at BetMGM make Carolina a comfortable home favorite at roughly -170K, about a 63% implied probability. Boston’s +170 price translates to a 37% chance of an upset win.
Carolina is +129 to cover the -1.5 puck line, good for about a 43% implied shot, while Boston +1.5 costs -154 at around 61%. The total sits at six goals, with the Over at +100 (%50) and the Under at even money, so a six-goal final is a push.
That 63% moneyline price is the key comparison for my pick, since the same Carolina win costs 63¢ on Kalshi. Check the latest NHL Odds for the rest of Tuesday’s slate.

Expected Goalies and Injury Notes
Jeremy Swayman projects to start for Boston, with Pyotr Kochetkov expected in the Carolina crease. Neither starter is confirmed yet for Bruins vs Hurricanes.
Jeremy Swayman vs Pyotr Kochetkov Stats
Swayman owns the slight edge in save percentage, .920 to .916. Kochetkov counters with the lower GAA at 1.70, and he’s working behind a team that allows just 22.38 shots per game.
The biggest roster note sits on Carolina’s side. Seth Jarvis is back from shoulder surgery, and Tuesday marks his first home game since returning.
