  • I’ve made my Maple Leafs vs Canucks prediction for Saturday’s Halloween matchup at Rogers Arena
  • One special teams battle in this game is about as lopsided as it gets 15 games into the season
  • Keep reading for my Maple Leafs vs Canucks odds breakdown and Saturday NHL picks

Fifteen games in, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks are trending in opposite directions. The Leafs are scoring at a healthy clip, while the Canucks can’t keep the puck out of their own net.

Toronto visits Rogers Arena on Saturday night, with puck drop set for 7 pm ET / 4 pm PT. Neither club has confirmed a starting goalie yet, and that matters for a couple of the angles below.

My Maple Leafs vs Canucks prediction comes down to special teams and shot volume. Here’s how I’m playing it.

Maple Leafs vs Canucks Prediction

Pick: Maple Leafs -1.5 (+140 at BetMGM)

I’m backing Toronto on the puck line for my Maple Leafs vs Canucks prediction. The Leafs are 7-6-2 with a +6 goal differential, while Vancouver sits at 3-11-1 and has been outscored 68-45.

That works out to 4.53 goals allowed per game for the Canucks. They’re also getting outshot by more than 11 per night, generating 21.1 shots while giving up 32.2.

Maple Leafs vs Canucks Stats Through 15 Games

28.1Shots For/Game21.1
29.4Shots Against/Game32.2

92.3%Penalty Kill65.4%

Special teams is where this game can get away from Vancouver. Toronto’s power play is converting at 31.3%, and it runs into a Canucks penalty kill sitting at 65.4%.

Flip it around and Vancouver’s 19.1% power play faces a Leafs kill at 92.3%. If the whistles come, Toronto should win that battle on both ends of the ice.

Vancouver will get some looks, since the Leafs allow 29.4 shots per game. But a 3.00 goals-per-game offence has a tough time covering for 4.53 against, and that’s the gap I want Toronto to exploit by two or more.

Maple Leafs vs Canucks Odds

Bet TypeMaple LeafsCanucks
Puck Line-1.5 (+140)+1.5 (-169)
Moneyline-161+135
TotalO 6.5 (-128)U 6.5 (+105)

Odds as of Oct. 30 at BetMGM.

The Maple Leafs vs Canucks odds at BetMGM have Toronto at -161 on the moneyline, about a 61.7% implied chance. Vancouver is +135 at home, which translates to roughly 42.6%.

I’d rather take Toronto -1.5 at +140, good for around a 41.7% implied shot. It pays out more than the moneyline and leans on the same edge: Vancouver has eleven losses in 15 games and has given up 23 more goals than it’s scored.

The total sits at 6.5 goals, with the Over at -128 (a 56.1% implied probability) and the Under at +105 (about 48.8%).

Maple Leafs vs Canucks Picks for Saturday

Over 6.5 goals (-128 at BetMGM)

My second Saturday NHL pick is the Over. Toronto scores 3.73 goals per game and Vancouver allows 4.53, while the Canucks average 3.00 goals and the Leafs give up 3.33.

Brock Boeser gives Vancouver some pop with four goals and twelve points. And none of the four goalies who could start this game has a GAA below 2.79.

NHL Player Prop: Auston Matthews anytime goal

Wrapping up my Maple Leafs vs Canucks picks, Auston Matthews is the player I’m targeting. He has ten goals and 23 points through 15 games, scoring on ten of his 44 shots.

Vancouver gives up 32.2 shots per game, and Matthews should see extra chances against that 65.4% penalty kill. William Nylander sits right behind him with nine goals on 44 shots, so the Canucks can’t key on one finisher.
